Just curious of the boards opinion of the "Layla" album? Personally, I love it, I think any guitar worshipper like myself would love Clapton and Duane Allman playing together. Jam IV with both of them is just filthy. I received Eric Clapton's autobiography as a Christmas gift and just finished reading it, reading about the background of these songs maybe makes me bias to liking it so much. I'm a sucker for passionate music though, and this album is full of it. Other than the obvious track "Layla", I'd say my favorite tracks are "Bell Bottom Blues", "Nobody knows you when you're down and out", and "It's too late".

I typically find Clapton and his guitar playing and song writing boring and vomit inducing so much so that I'd rather him beat my brains in with the guitar, rather them hear him play it... and this album is no different..

However, for some reason, Ive always liked Bell Bottom Blues

One of my favorite albums ever.

Favorite tracks: Why Does Love Got To Be So Sad? , Anyday , Key to the Highway , Keep on Growing, the legendary title track.... really everything

If you don't have their album Live at the Fillmore I highly recommended it. Here is a preview. Duane isn't there for the show but it is arguably Clapton's best live performance with heavy wah-wah effects throughout.

eta: I was stoked when I stumbled into a bar called Quixote's True Blue in Denver this summer and saw a giant painting of the album cover.

I think it is a very good album. I have always thought that Clapton needed to surround himself with more talented musicians to create great music and this album shows that. The jams on The Layla Sessions are fantastic. Duane's slide on the Layla Overture is such a classic too

My ex GF painted it for me for my 21st birthday. Still hangs in my marital home

and Bonamassa takes it to another level.

Eric Clapton & Carlos Santana - Eyesight to the Blind -> Why Does Love Got To Be So Sad? (Live 6.25.1975 Providence Civic Center)

This is a fricking insane jam

I always skip to the last half of the song. That ending vamp when all the parts come together is extremely beautiful. One of the best of all time, IMO.

Legendary. Probably more written about this record than any other besides maybe some Beatles or Stones records. The who, what, when, where, how, and why of the record are all intriguing. Besides Journeyman, Clapton's masterpiece. JK

Top 10 album of all time

Seriously, how can a person not love an album that features Eric Clapton AND Duane Allman?

D&D's cover of "Little Wing" is so damn amazing.

Getting some real good feedback on here, good to see that it's a well received album on here, and that some people enjoy it as much as I do.

Keep in mind that Clapton was only like 24 years old when this album came out and he hadn't really came into his own as a lead singer yet. He says in his book that he struggled with confidence in his voice for a long time.

Its one of my top albums. You should check out the jam sessions. No vocals, just hours of ABB and slowhand jamming.

Fyi, if you liked the account of Claptons book about this album, check out Skydog. It goes into this album much more in depth.

Perfect album except for that abomination of the last track. I truly believe Eric left that last song on the album to show everyone how great "his" songs were and how forgettable the album would be if Whitlock wrote the entire album himself....haha

It's one of the best rock albums of all time. A great collaboration by some terrific musicians.

BTW, while some of Clapton's later stuff became and, perhaps, still is a little too slick, you can't seriously place Layla in that category. These guys were jamming, and Tom Dowd's production was spot on. I guess if the charge against them is playing "in tune and in time" I suspect they would gladly plead guilty.

I've tried to enjoy JoeB, but to no success. He is talented, but definitely not a throwback to Duane, SRV and the like.

But how sick was Anyday on this album?!?! If you a fan of this genre and don't have Anyday from this album in your rotation, well, I feel sorry for your mother.

no doubt. The sound is too mechanical IMO. It does not ´breathe´.

As for Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs, a great album, no doubt, but the myth is larger than reality, IMNSHO.

All due respect, No. This album is anything but overated. If anything, its underrated. No critical acclaim upon release. And most "music fans" have no idea what DND accomplished.
