Little late to this party, but definitely not late to the album.

Throw in 2 trips to the gym that I listened exclusively to RAM on shuffle (plus any time I'm in the car) and I've listened to RAM a lot.

Nice screenshot. I'm gonna have to steal that idea from you.

Well thank god they were never a Dubstep act in the first place. Daft Punk got famous because of their house tracks in French clubs and unbelievable house/disco albums. Like I said seeing them at coachella like 6 years ago may have ruined me but I am just not the biggest fan of this album. I mean they made us wait 8 years almost for a new studio album and this is the best they can do? I think it's fair to hold them to the highest of standards especially since they bridged the gap between underground and mainstream in the early 2000's

But you're not holding them to a standard. You're holding them to a sound.

Don't typecast them. They ain't Jaime Pressley.

I don't think R.A.M. is EDM.

I realize that it's dance music that was made electronically, but it just doesn't sound like EDM. The tracks aren't oonssah oonsah oonsah. It's more like funk. Or disco.

Agreed. You can hear their EDM influences from time to time, but I'd definitely call it more a fusion of disco and funk.

Different than most of their earlier work, but still fantastic. Will be interesting to see what they do with the remixes.

I sadly am not that keen on the album. I like Contact and a handful of other songs but I would honestly be content with never hearing about 5 songs on it ever again. I guess they consider Tron as their last album and don't really view the span as 8 years between studio releases, so they have no problem being bold or different with RAM.

They have a right to "evolve" and they're still excellent composers. The fact that they're getting tons of more mainstream praise is awesome - but I'm just not seeing what the drooling is over. Tron was out of control awesome. For RAM I'm finding myself going "meh" more than I'd like to.

I thought it was pretty pedestrian. If anything, Tron and Human After All were disappointments. Random Access Memories is a return to greatness.

It was pretty funny seeing Daft Punk in the movie though. I definitely LOL'd in the theater

Here is my take on Tron: Legacy...it is the best 90 minute music video ever made.

I haven't seen Tron, and I probably never will. But the score that Daft Punk did for that movie is fricking amazing.

Actually...I'm listening (on Spotify, right now) to "Tron Legacy Reconfigured". Not sure if the non-remixed version sounds better or worse, but it can't possibly sound that much better because what I'm listening to right now is the tits.

I'm sure I'll get a few eyes rolling here, but I don't see what is exceptionally great about this album. I do like it..I really do, and I will break it out every once in a while for a listen. I guess it's just not what I was expecting or hoping for from Daft Punk. I was wanting something more futuristic and less disco sounding.

I understand this album to be sort of an ode to their influences (mainly disco) that they sampled and filtered in the past. I get it and I can respect that.

I really think Pharrell Williams is a poor choice of vocalist. The guy doesn't sing well, I'm sorry - he just doesn't flatter my ears! I get that he's a name and he likes what DP does - that's cool that he has the sense to respect Electronic Music.

Maybe I will like the remixes better? I'm sure there will be a ton. Hell, maybe I will do one?

I give this album a 6.5 out of 10.

(Respect the opinion - don't get all butt hurt Music Boarders!)

Not sure if already posted but I found this article / review amusing.

LINK /

quote:

“I really like Daft Punk’s new album,” said Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger in a recent interview for Vancouver’s 94.5 The Beat FM.

“In fact, it reminds me a bit of my own songwriting. It’s something that would definitely get played at The Gap or maybe even Home Depot, and in that regard our music isn’t so different,” Kroeger continued.

“Don’t get me wrong, I think disco is a bit fluffy and I would never listen to it for pleasure, but I have a lot of respect for artists setting out two or three rules for all the songs on an album and never breaking out of that mold…it’s not something everyone can do successfully.”

While Random Access Memories is indeed a different direction for Daft Punk, they haven’t lost the loyal admiration of Kanye West, who has already asked for permission to use a one hour and fourteen-minute sample from the album for his own new side project, Fast Dunk.

I had to go to the link to try to figure out if that was a serious review or not.

Is this like The Onion of music magazines?
