Jason Boland and Turnpike Troubadours

Where do they land in music history? They seem to be in high demand as artist that cater to the old school country fans, but I hear NOTHING about them.

I think Boland will have a pretty solid legacy in Texas country. TT aren't there yet, but they will be if they keep up producing top shelf country like they have on their past two albums. Diamonds and Gasoline has been in my CD player in my truck for over a year and hasn't been taken out yet. Good shit

Real country music doesn't appeal to suburban middle aged white women, their teeny bopper daughters and misguided 4x4 on the interstate sons.

Boland has, in my opinion, one of the best voices in music. Unfortunately, he writes REAL country music and will probably never appeal to the "masses". That's not to say he hasn't done extremely well for himself, because he has. Definitely not hurting financially, and has a relatively strong fanbase.

Turnpike, on the other hand, has a legit chance of being commercially successful. I don't think Evan would EVER sell out (and I hope I'm right about that), but I do see TT's music as having a little more national appeal. They are on the verge of blowing up. They've been in Sweden for the last month but are back in the US and are hitting the national circuit this summer. They've got shows not only in TX and Okie, but Chicago, Cali, the Pacific Northwest, etc.

Boland and TT have the same manager and Cory is very very good at his job.

What Doc said. Both are great but lack the pop appeal needed to make it big as a "country" artist. If you don't talk about how country you are, you can't make it in mainstream. It works the same way for television, look how the Duck Commander guys utilized the word redneck as their non duck hunting related show made them famous outside of their historical audience.
