Radiohead and RHCP if you want to include 90s bands still hanging around

But there is a shitload of awesome rock still being made that doesn't have a wide audience in America, so it certainly isn't the "end of rock"

Already this year alone we've had awesome albums from
Django Django
Viet Cong
Colleen Green
Courtney Barnett
Toro y Moi

Over the next month we will be getting albums from
Tame Impala
Bully
Leon Bridges (more oldschool R&B but frick it)

And most of those are debut or sophomore albums, so rock isn't going to "end" anytime soon. The era of rock being the most popular genre of music in America may have passed, but it could also make a comeback.

Thanks for answering yes to the OP's question. If this is all that's out there, point me to the nearest Kevin Gates flyer.

Rock now is shite you would find on the Pulse. shite like American Authors, Imagine Dragons, Mumford and sons, Fun.

7 neckbeards playing banjos, triangles, tambourines, trumpets. One jackass with a bass drum.

Crobot is a new band no one is talking about and they're >>>>>>> than anything Grohl has put out.

Rock music is fine.

Yes Foo Fighters were literally the only rock band in the world and now will never tour or record new music again because of Dave's broken leg.

Ok, help me out here. You say Rock in title, then it changes to Hard Rock in thread. Which is it?

Nothing Foo Fighters ever did was "Hard Rock" to me. Just rock. Hard rock was always stuff in between "Rock" bands like Foo Fighters, Trust Company, Breaking Benjamin, The Muse, etc... and Metal.

So bands like KSE, Flaw, Blindside have always been "hard rock" to me.

If I am right, and those groups are included in the genre, I can name several amazing bands right now. If not, then...meh.

Blindside is amazing. Just wanted to specifically iterate that.

Personally, I prefer bands like Demon Hunter, Haste the Day, Becoming the Archetype, Underoath, Wolves at the Gate, Norma Jean(rip)...etc.

Seriously, is there an example of a hard rock band made of 25 year olds that is popular enough to fill arenas and has songs that are even arguably in the cultural consciousness?

The Bayou Bullets? jk

Rise Against
The Black Keys
Jack White
Myles Kennedy & Slash
Alter Bridge

Like them or hate them, these bands still book and fill arenas.

It's hard for something to "die" when it doesn't have the capacity for living or dying. It's like declaring a set of car keys to be "dead".

It would be possible for rock music to regain a prominence in our culture again at some point but there are certain things that have to happen in order to allow it. First thing that must happen is that any older remnants of the "classic" period have to go away for a while. That means 400 year old rock bands have to retire and the whole genre of "classic rock" has to drop out of sight.

Al Bundy said it best: "Peg, how can I miss you when you never go away?"

People who say "rock is still going strong" may be correct in that rock music is still being made and is still arguably of a decent quality. But those who lament it's death are really looking at rock's position and weight in our culture. And they are quite right that it is woefully diminished.

There's far more to it than a simple age gap. People don't care anymore because the association of rock music is linked to a bygone era through the incessant and toxic overplaying of the "classics". If you think you've heard "You Shook Me All Night" by AC/DC a few too many times, just imagine what it's like to be a kid these days and know that song was already worn out a decade before they were born.

I keep wanting to be hopeful about the state of rock music. There is a whole generation of kids growing up these days without new rock music on the radio. True rock stations are dying out all over the country, changing formats or just straight up disappearing. There are kids who's only knowledge of rock will come when riding in their parents or grandparents cars and hearing Foreigner or Journey come on the worn out classic rock station. New popular music doesn't rock. It thumps, it grinds, it pops, it mellows, it emotes, it rages, but it doesn't rock.

Yet, there is still hope. Young kids are still discovering rock. Go to any high school in America and you still will find a crowd of kids whose favorite bands aren't Maroon 5 or Florida/Georgia Line, it's Zeppelin and Pink Floyd. I feel as if a renaissance is coming. The pendulum keeps swinging and will inevitably swing back the other way.

Who knows, perhaps this new generation with it's fondness for Zeppelin will actually produce some great stripped down Rock and Roll. Rock has gotten too convoluted. Too many synthesizers, too much sterilized studio editing, too many effects, too mellow, too jazzy, ect. It's as if we have an entire generation of musicians on xanex. It's time to get some grit back in rock n roll. It's time for 2 overdrive guitars, bass, and drums. It's time for simple in your face, loud, danceable, makes you feel like a 10ft tall bullet-proof badass rock and roll. If a band can make the white girls dance and make the bros feel cool with the same song, they will print money, and with the internet and the democratization of music, they'll go viral fast.
