How do you think a group feels when products uses a cover to promote product?

Video game coming out
Main song is a cover of Metallica ' s Nothing Else Matters
You think that pissed them off, or it actually is a compliment to the song's more well-rounded nature?

They're in the business to make money. They get paid for that stuff. I don't know for sure, but I think their publishing company has a right to allow,or refuse usage. Everybody likes money right?

probably not, because they would have to sign off on it...
Like when REM told Microsoft no (It's the end of the world...) for Windows 95 campaign... Rolling Stones said yes (start me up)..
I think it pisses them off more when used by politicians..

True. Note, the Stones own none of their catalog - recorded or publishing - from '62 to '70: Satisfaction, Jumping Jack Flash, Sympathy, Paint It Black, You Can't Always Get...., etc. Anytime you hear one of those used, Allen Klein and family get richer. Damn shame.

quote:Klein owns the publishing, but Jagger and Richards still own their songwriting rights, correct? So they would get royalties -- they just don't control how or when the usage rights are sold

They get something but I do not believe they have any say in what gets used or not. That's why Jagger in '70 went to such lengths and legal work to completely control everything from that point forward. The only thing they on Sticky Fingers they don't control are the publishing for Brown Sugar and Wild Horses as they were recorded in '69. I think they split control of the masters. Once they got burned, Jagger swore they never would again. Good thing he went to the London school of economics.
