Help with a new record player

I really want to invest in one because I have a decent number of vinyls but want to start collecting even more. Where is a good place to get a nice one without 1. paying way too much or 2. getting a piece of shite

This may actually be a more nuanced question than it seems
At one point, record players manufacturers were striving to achieve a sound closer to digital or that "perfect" sound
Now, it seems vinyl lovers seem to embrace the warmer sound of imperfection. akin to the tube amp vs electric/digital amp following
I know Technics seemed to be the industry leader for many years. But, my parents had a Nakamichi that was dope at the time compared to what else was out there

You're actually very right. I guess I'm also uninformed. The majority of my vinyls are actually my dads from when he was younger, so I'm wondering if those will always have that classic sound regardless of the player. The newer vinyls I buy, I wouldn't mind sounding clean or having the imperfect sound you speak of.
And after browsing Needle Doctor for a little while, I had no clue there were so many options. Pretty overwhelming, and I have no idea whats good and whats not, besides whatever the price says

I'm not sure what your budget is, but something as cheap as an Audio Technica AT-PL60 would be fine for moderate listening. Avoid Crosley. Technics or a similar brand is probably the best option if you want to invest in a quality product.

It took me awhile and a lot of talking with those guys that run the site but I finally settled on the music hall mmf 5.1 turntable and bellari vp130 preamp. I'm sure most of those setups will play nicely

A tube preamp was a must for me. Being a lifelong guitar player and having both types of amps (solid state and tube), tubes are the only way to go. I had a budget and looked in that price range. Needle doctor suggested it and I read a bunch of reviews on it. Didn't seem like a bad deal. Easy to use, has a headphone out in case you want to use headphones. Changing the tube is easy and you can experiment with different ones. Has a low pass filter as well, althougg I havent needed to use it yet. And it is small. The only negative i can say is that it does not have an on/off switch; you have to plug in and unplug it when you use it. Hope this helps.
