Try taking what they are giving you and break it down into 1/4 sections. Just play a little bit at a time until you know it then move to the next 1/4 of the song. Sometimes learning songs in little pieces or sections helps.

That's how I do it. A lot of songs are naturally broken into sections. Verse-chorus-verse-chorus-bridge-verse-chorus or whatever. So all you have to do is learn each section and then put them together.
