Paul Rogers IS the GOAT!
He's one of my favorites. Saw him fronting for Queen and he did a bang up job.

It's Freddie. The guy was a once in a generation talent.

Paul Rodgers is the definition of a classic rock voice.

Jim Morrison without a doubt. Cant believe he has not been mentioned yet.
i have to be the biggest Doors fan on TD, but the question was greatest vocalist. Jim was not a very good singer. He even admitted it. And the band knew it too. But he had incredible stage presence and charisma.
The answer is Freddy Mercury.

No Janis?
Little known Maria McKee (Lone Justice) is pretty darn good. Listen to "Ways To Be Wicked"
Wilson's are at top of my list too

I can get behind Bon bigtime...Diamond Dave...not so much. Not as a singer.

If "soft rock" qualifies, one of my faves is David Pack. Great voice. I still unwind after work with some Ambrosia routinely.

I included Don Henly, ole velvet pipes himself...so I agree with a vote for Pack.

Wasn't a huge fan but there are not many that can match David Bowie's vocal.
Female would be Annie Lennox.
They could sing across genres at a very high level.

I agree that every one listed is in the elite class. Hard to say a definitive #1. Even though the band is 80s cheesy I would submit David Coverdale as among the elite echelon of vocalists. Definitely not #1 but pretty high up the list.

No doubt, Paul "The Voice" Rogers...

Pat Benatar deserves a mention.

Phenomenal singer. Classically trained, tone and grit were fantastic. She and Ann Wilson in their prime were monster female vocalists.
But it's Freddie.
