Too many to have an undisputed #1, but since I was a kid this guy still gets my vote. Just perfect in every way.

Ronnie Van Zant was right to idolize him-Hell, the Skynyrd we know today wouldn't be the same without Free.

MTV's reluctance to play Michael Jackson's Billie Jean video with the position they were a "rock" channel and that only "rock" artists' videos would be broadcast, MJ was not considered a "rock" artist at the time before Beat It and many industry people accused the channel of racism for not playing black artists' videos which was a bullshite accusation.

So then they stopped playing rock music videos outside of Headbanger's ball, and then stopped playing music altogether! Yay!!!

Freddy Mercury

These discussions have a bad habit of turning into a discussion about 70s vocalists, so I'm throwing out some more recent masters:
Mike Patton MP's considerable range
Devin Townsend
Maynard James Keenan (He's such a douche, though)
Mikael Akerfeldt

Roger Daltrey suits my taste probably better than anyone. I'm really not a fan of high pitched male vocals.
