While it's not MY pick for "best debut EVAH", Meat Loaf's 'Bat Out Of Hell' sold 40+ million copies and has a few songs that still get airplay today. Before someone lectures me, I know album sales aren't the end-all...but to be among one of the all-time best sellers (I mean, it's ranked at number 5?!?!), that's quite a feat for a debut.

More up my alley, Dire Straits' debut is near perfection IMO.

The rest of my choices have already been posted by others...apologies if I overlooked the two albums I mentioned.
