Hell yeah friend! That's gonna be such an awesome show. Energy will be rocking all day tomorrow around that place.

I've been listening to a lot of Jerry solo and JGB stuff this week. Garcia Live 8 & 9.

Makes for great working music. I work as an assistant superintendent on a golf course, so I get to listen to music pretty much all day while I'm working. It's not too bad.

Loving his covers of The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down.

Have fun cgrand!

Gonna buy the stream and have a nice night on the couch.

Stream was a pain but catching up on the first set. This acoustic band is killer. Ragged but Right

Friend of the Devil is also great!

Bobby is killing this Peggy-O. Can't even imagine being there.

Didn't see a Dark Star coming.

so much fun
acoustic band was killer, anders was a good addition and they were really tight.
the best band as far as playing was the JGB with oteil and Tom Hamilton...it was incredible hearing those songs and arrangements again, on jerrys guitar no less.
bobs set was kinda all over the place...the first few songs were right on, then Mayer came out again and things were pretty sloppy after that

bobs band is so good they really didn't need him, and it became almost another dead and co.set which was a little out of place considering the vibe (celebrating Jerry). Anyway kimock was awesome as usual and the crowd was happy

Hurting this morning but well worth it

Kimock is the best fake Jerr. Not even close.

he's patient with the riffs and solos and plays with a lot more delicacy
it was great hearing him play jerrys guitar, really cool

Mayer was just out of place for the vibe of what had come before, if that makes any sense

FYI - on AXS tv tonite... Sat, Aug 5th, 9:00 PM ET
Jerry Garcia Symphonic Celebration featuring Warren Haynes

Warren Haynes teams up with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra at the Red Rocks Amphitheatre to pay tribute to one of the founders of the Grateful Dead, Jerry Garcia. This special tribute features Warren playing Jerry's guitar, Tiger, which hasn't been played publicly since the Grateful Dead's final show in 1995.

this was recorded last year (8-1-16) for the Fatman's bday

Spot on. I think it threw Bobby off too.

The "sometimes...I don't know" during Eyes was an interesting little section of the show. Think some emotions got to him too.

The opening solo part of Peggy-O was some of the best I heard last night. He nailed it.

bob solo last nite was the best music he played, that and the Dylan tune he played with JGB.
another weird thing happened earlier, some dude climbed up on stage at the start of Rubin and cherese and had to be gang tackled

that's why they restarted the song

Yeah. I was watching the stream when that guy yelled. They wouldn't cut away from Melvin Seals playing to show the guy. Melvins face was hilarious. Played it cool as a cucumber.

We rewinded during set break and he said "my life is on the line. This isn't cool." Then sounded like he got tackled. Duane Trucks on the drums was pretty funny during the scene too.

It was always one of my top 5 favorite bootleg tapes because of Jerry's Close Encounters solo, and the amazing TN Jed into Jack Straw. For those listening to the new CD release (DP23), pay attention to the acoustics inside McArthur Court. Not only is the band super tight, but it's clean and LOUD. According to my ears, Jerry's guitar sounds unique at this venue. From late 77 to early 78, Jerry was alternating between his Travis Bean and Wolf. His guitar tone resonates different perhaps because of the acoustics, along with his amp and EQ settings ... bass, treble, midrange, and gain. Listen closely and tell me if I'm crazy

Several years ago I emailed David Lemieux about this exact show. I asked if it would ever be released as part of the DP series. His response was "not likely" because they didn't have a good enough copy of the show in the Vault, and he would not release or put his name on a subpar recording. My heart sank and I was bummed out.

In February of this year, Relix and the Tapers Section Forum confirmed a plethora of Betty Board tapes had been discovered and were being returned to the GD vault. The published list still didn't have this 1-22-78 show, and I thought is was lost forever or didn't exist. When David announced this show had been found, and would be released as DP23 I couldn't fricken believe it. One of the smartest decisions I ever made was to sign up for the yearly subscription of Dave's Picks. Basically a $100+ dollar investment, and you get quarterly CD surprises in the mail of amazing shows. Carry on brothers

Dave said he didn't even know it was in the returned tapes until they started going thru them. Amazing show...crank it LOUD

This will probably get some mixed responses, but what do you think about all these "limited edition" releases the Dead have been putting out lately? I didn't even get a shot at getting Dave's Picks 23, because the "subscribers" got first crack at it, and it sold out before anyone else had a chance to purchase it? Call me whiney, but I'm a little peeved about the way they're doing business lately. I just want to hear the music, period....I don't feel like paying an inflated amount of money for a "limited edition" set, nor do I want to buy a subscription, just so I can get in the queue. Just put the damn thing out at an affordable price, like it always used to be....downvote away, lol

Yeah, I get that. But once upon a time, they'd announce a release, it'd be an affordable price, and I gladly paid for it. Now I'm expected to pony up alot of dough for these releases, as if Gene Simmons is running things at the Dead HQ, lol...

Sorry, it just feels like a last-ditch cash grab for the remaining fans who still buy physical product. At least throw a bone to the plebs like myself who just want the music, without the extra bells and whistles....

they do limited edition now so that they can do these 4x a year releases without getting stuck with inventory. the last release series (road trips) they didnt do that and they didnt sell

so its because they are doing limited editions that they are able to do the releases at all, with the nice packaging, remastering, etc. for $100 a year you get 4 shows, plus a bonus disc. its a no brainer. you get 13 discs for $8 an disc...thats not "a lot of dough".

Let's just agree to disagree, but I won't be shocked if the torrent sites start lighting up after the Eugene '78 release, if the comments I've read elsewhere are indicative of anything...
