Are you the taper that drove from Nola to Chi town that the NY Times did an article on today?

NYT: ‘Tapers’ at the Grateful Dead Concerts Spread the Audio Sacrament

That'd be awesome if it's him.

We just pulled into Arkansas a little bit ago. Another hour or so to get home.

What an incredible last show.

I live in Memphis. Been on the couch in the dark and quiet for about an hour.

Just realizing how sore I am. Must've walked 50 miles last 3 days.

Super jealous

just from the couch, July 4th (Trey in particular) was fantastic and my favorite night.

How was the scene surrounding the stadium preshow? Any pics? Did you guys make it to any late night shows? How were your seats?

while I wait for my waffle at the batesville Waffle House....

I have tons of pix I'll post some tomorrow
our seats were I think the best in the house, behind the corner of the stage opposite the big video screen. plenty of dancing room, we had four huge speaker arrays blasting right at us, you could look straight down on top of the stage, and right there on that big screen you basically got the video stream for free. Plus there was a head and a beer stand 10 seconds away

Almost forgot the best part, the fireworks display was right over our heads

we walked around a bit and there was no where I would have rather sat, especially not the floor

I'm still in Chicago and flying home Tues pm ... O'hare > Nola > Laffy

I was on the floor Sat. 7/4 and stood directly behind the tapers. Talked to them about past/present recording equipment , older shows, archive.org, live music downloads, etc.... Met "the" GD sound engineer who previously lived in Laffy from 2005-2007 and his recorded shows will become property of the GD with possibility of future CD/digital release .

I have a bunch of cool pics from the taper section which I can post up on Wed. View of the stage was not the best due to the numerous microphone booms but the sound was incredible. Large video screens were positioned stage L and R and around the stadium for audience viewing.

I also watch all shows from the couch. Just finished Sunday's show last night. Not real impressed with Sunday's second set. Saturday was best, IMO.

Vocals were just horrible, as much as I hate to say something negative.

its OK to say that...its true, the vocals were at times hard to listen to, even in the ecstasy of being in the stadium. an important historical musical statement was never going to be one of the outcomes here, and people who expected/demanded that just were not paying attention

bob/billy/phil/mickey are all over or pushing 70 years old. they are well, well past their primes as musicians, they've not been a functioning musical unit in 20 years, and any honest head will tell you that vocally they never were any better than "OK" even in their primes

it was about gathering the tribes one last time, and and communing with the scene. i watched the santa clara shows on a stream, and quickly lost interest. in the stadium though, with the heads, it was an entirely different experience.

in short, "you had to be there"

I wouldn't say the vocals other than Phil's were horrible. But Phil has always been horrible. I understand he's Phil Lesh, but he ruined Lady With Fan. I think even Cody cringed when he heard that.

Bruce and Trey did a great job.

Bobby missed a vocal cue once or twice, but he's been doing that since the 60's too.
