Rolling Stones last night and U2 on Sunday or Monday - I'm not really happy with the setlists I'm seeing... not nearly enough Achtung Baby or Pop (although they always ignore Pop) for my liking.

I haven't given the new album much of a chance apart from "Every Breaking Wave" which is brilliant, (but which they ruin by playing acoustically live). That free album drop really messed up my perspective of the album - it really did seem disposable and cheap to me. It's strange how a even a life-long U2 fan like myself (thanks to older siblings in the 80's) resented the "gift".

Any thoughts or tips?

How about getting ready to hear Bono preach about America & the world not doing enough for Global Warming, 3rd World debt relief, & AIDS research instead of playing songs from Achtung Baby & POP.

U2 rocker and activist Bono opened up about his religion, politics and his charity work in a recent interview with Focus on the Family President Jim Daly, during which he praised former President George W. Bush for his work fighting AIDS in Africa. Bono talked about the issue from a religious point of view, comparing it to leprosy, during the interview, which will be broadcast on Tuesday. “I am here to thank the American people for that,” he said. “And I also want to thank the evangelical community for that, because it wouldn’t have happened without their leadership, because they, like myself, pestered George Bush and the administration, who actually deserve praise for starting this out..

Only seen them once, that was the Joshua Tree tour, and it was amazing. Wouldn't mind seeing them one more time.

U2 Plays "Gloria" - Rolling Stone

Video at top of link

This was U2's first show since the landmark Supreme Court decision on Friday that granted marriage equality to all Americans, and Bono celebrated by wearing a rainbow flag during "Pride (In The Name of Love)." The singer also modified the lyrics of "Beautiful Day. "See the world in green and blue," he sang, via @U2. "A rainbow of colors right in front of you."

It was a really great show - U2 has kind of merged theater and storytelling with their concert now. You can tell that after 15 or shows on this tour it's definitely "clicking" as all the transitions are smooth, Bono's banter and sidebars are contributing to the show rather than being awkward or distracting. Special night with the big social week for the US coupled with the gay pride weekend events in Chicago.

Really great album that was marketed poorly. The last 3 legs of Popmart was the greatest rock and roll spectacle in music history

I saw U2 on Friday...it was a great concert, although you are always left disappointed since they have so many good songs and they inevitably don't play some of your favorites.

Was a big fan of Achtung Baby (which came out when I was at LSU) and Pop. I saw them on the Popmart tour in the Superdome.

I thought Bono's vocals were great.

I thought "The Unforgettable Fire" was a masterpiece. I couldn't get into anything after that.

Joshua Tree was a tour de force album. I loved Achtung Baby just as much though. They kept reinventing themselves during that time. Those three albums were just different from each other. All fantastic though.

I was there with you and 12,500 others Whoever scheduled U2 to play in venues like the Superdome and Raymond James Stadium and the Jaguars stadium behind an incredibly European album like POP was a flipping idiot. I think they were under 20% capacity for each of those concerts.

ETA: I was shocked at how much I loved this latest concert - the songs were so much better in person - really raw and powerful. I also loved how they implemented some of the things they learned from their Spider Man musical into the concert and mate it more of a "story". And yeah - Bono's voice was fantastic.

I've also always liked Pop. Not a huge fan of the production at parts, but the songs themselves are great for the most part. Just got a little lost in the noise and became a pariah.
