My favorite acts are Drive-By Truckers, Lucero, and Guy Clark. My theme song is "Know-it-All" by Lagwagon. I haven't watched MTV since the early RW/RR challenge days. I don't listen to Bobby Novosad in the mornings. I HATE POP MUSIC. Or at least I thought I did.
Last night I stumbled upon "Some Nights" by Fun. Mind blown.
And here I was thinking Queen was one of a kind.

Some Nights video

Is Fun. representative of pop music today?

Alt-pop or "indie" pop

But it's plain to see they have broken through to the mainstream

If it sounds good to you, why should you care what anyone thinks?

I feel bad for you if you can't see it.

And TheDoc, I was just making a point about where I was coming from. I'm surprised to hear a pop band make music that good.

They come off as extremely annoying to me now. But They have some catchy songs for sure.

I think Fun. is incredible. Fun. and Foster The People reminded me that pop music can also be good music.

I would question your use of the term "pop band". They're not the fricking Backstreet Boys. Nate Ruess writes all the songs, and he just happens to have a knack for writing catchy songs.

And, again, the above applies with equal force when discussing Mark Foster. The only reason Foster The People is a pop band is because people like listening to their songs.

That's exactly what kind of music should be popular.

This is retarded.

First of all they have some pretty damn good songs.

Second, they are actually what is good about pop music today. They play instruments, they write songs, they are musicians man. They aren't 5 guys singing songs someone else wrote, they aren't some teeny bopper on stage, they aren't a gimmick.

If you don't like their songs, that's fine. But you need to recognize that they are part of a movement in pop to return to musicians instead of American Idol winners. Even if you don't like them, you should appreciate that.

Kids might see them and think, "Oh man, I want to play guitar!" This is better than, "Oh man, I want to learn to do a backflip on stage like Usher" or "Oh I want to dress like Justin Bieber"

They are good for the pop music industry in my eyes. I want musicians playing instruments, they do that.
