No.
Only because the Stone Roses are a big band, to me.

I don't even think that's the most famous Stone Roses song. Fool's Gold was a top ten hit in England and for a brief period, was used in every movie filmed in England it seemed.

I used to DJ at a Rock/Alternative radio station in the mid-90s so my view on what is considered a hit is probably skewed a bit by what we had in rotation.

I also have to filter all the "big in Europe" stuff out of my brain. I know you feel me there, Shadeaux.

And they have been cited by a bunch of later bands as a big influence.

Very much true. And that goes for all of us, as to who you hung around with and what was considered a "hit".
Where did you work?

The DiVinyls. Good call.
Also made me think of DeeLite.
Then there's this: Elastica - Connection

i would imagine a hit would either be in the top 40 or top 25 at some point?

Yeah... but then you had songs that spent weeks at the top of the Alternative or Adult Alternative charts that barely cracked the Mainstream Top 40 in the 90s so it's kind of a "perception of reality" thing (for me anyways).

Wait...really? I used to live in nola and listened to them all the time. Dude.
You were a DJ there? Went by a certain "DJ" name?

I feel ya. Europe is the standard bearer in my opinion of good music.
I've been getting into/discovering tons of great bands out of there.

Concrete Blond- Joey?
That's their only "mainstream" hit... but they had 7 songs hit the Top 25 on the Modern Rock Chart.
Including God is A Bullet (15), Someday (8) and my favorite Heal it Up (#8) which peaked just outside the mainstream Top 40.
