It's gotta be The times they are a changin.

Ironically, fairly high on the list also is Don't think twice it's alright. The Waylon version is spectacular, but so is the Dylan.

Dylan - despite the constant talking about his lyrics - was a consummate writer of melodies. Just look at the first 10 songs on his comprehensive greatest hits. Almost all are ridiculously memorable.

Probably "Lay Lady Lay", "I Threw It All Away", or something else from his Nashville Skyline period. His country crooning style is perhaps the least likely to make certain people rant against his singing voice.

Probably "Lay Lady Lay",
I thought this would be a common response.

Meh. While I thought Dylan was great on his version, Clapton and GnR took the song to another (yet different) level. Maybe not elevated, but I enjoy the song more having experienced all those covers.

That is not the case at all with All Along the Watchtower - a cover (Hendrix) so good as to make the guy who wrote the song change the way he did it - forever.

But, I digress. The answer is probably Lay Lady Lay - as others have suggested. Not only did Dylan reach down and find something resembling a "singing voice" (as opposed to the constipated "vocal stylist" vibe on many of his tracks, even the hits) - he combined that with a professional delivery (and solid production, to boot) without losing too much of the edginess that made him a rock star.

And it fit the song - Like a Rolling Stone was almost written for his normal nasally delivery. The Times they are a Changin' works with a slightly less nasally version of his normal voice.

But, Lay Lady Lay - if you're hiring the young Dylan to actually sing a song for you - that's the version you want.

Lay Lady Lay is the only answer here.

Abandoned Love.

And despite his vocal shortcomings, Dylan sang a lot of the songs the exact way they needed to be sung and that often called for a less polished delivery, if that makes sense.

Lay Lady Lay was Dylan's answer to the critics who said he could not sing back in the day. His one..and only...answer.

This.

I honestly did not know this was Dylan for years. Sounds nothing like "him" or the impressions of him.

I hate Dylan's voice on Lay Lady Lay.

I choose Jokerman.
