Drive-By Truckers 10/17 - Joy Theater

Not much pub for this show. Saw them a bunch of times, last time at Hogs for the Cause. Good show but don't love the current lineup. Anyone been to the Joy? Good or bad venue?

I saw them at the Civic and for whatever reason it was a terrible fricking venue for their show. Just a lifeless environment all around. The sound felt hollow and the audience was filled with a bunch of yuppies who seemed completely disinterested. It was 70% empty by the encore. So to answer your question, I can't imagine Joy is any worse, although I wish they would just play at Tips again. I'll be there regardless.

They used to have a guy named John Neff who played pedal steel and lead. He was awesome but left the band. Now, more keyboards and less pedal steel. Not as good.

FWIW, I've been seeing DBT since 2001 and they're playing better now than they ever have. While Gonzalez doesn't play pedal, his keys and occasional guitar are a good addition.

Probably because they've played here 3-4 times in the past year and a half with those two Civic shows, Hogs and one Tip's show.
Plus Cooley did a solo show at Gasa Gasa. A lot of truckers in a little time.
