December 8th is always a highly observed date for the anniversary of John Lennon's murder, but it's not the only high-profile murder of a musician to fall on the same date. In fact the crazy coincidence was one of the first things I thought about when I heard Dimebag Darrell had been killed onstage.

RIP Dime.

Not only him but the murders of others there that night as well. Was all senseless and such a fricked up situation.

Amazing guitarist and was actually a legit bass player too.

Man, gotta respect his style. Definitely metal but he just brought his own style of play and was totally badass. A lot of guitarists try to emulate what he did, but he had some of the most aggressive, heavy riffs out there.

I saw Damageplan twice that year. One of their crew who was shot poured beer down my throat. The wrong Abbott brother died that day for sure.

The best metal guitarist of all time IMO
I could only dream of being able to play guitar like he did.

I remember hearing about his death on the drive home from college for Christmas break. Listened to Liquid Metal on XM the whole way home. Never had a chance to see him play live but without a doubt one of the greatest guitar players of all time.

RIP Dime
