Can you name me 5 current songs that don't mention alcohol or backroads/country roads?

Go..

You can add "reference to an actual great southern rock or country musician" to the list.

Most bro country likes to put a little Hank or Skynard reference in their song to make you forget you ears are being raped.

Don't forget David Allan Coe.

Tin Man: Miranda Lambert
Losing Sleep: Chris Young
Every little thing: Carly Pearce
Mercy: Brett Young
Every time I hear that song: Blake Shelton

Does this disappoint the op?

Was in the dome at a show Friday night and they were playing music in the background. It's horrible because when Luke Bryan and those songs some on, you can't change the station, you're just stuck in hell.

You're probably right. But I find the line between country/americana is fuzzy at times. The way I look at it, if we are gonna call "bro-country" country (which it most certainly isn't), then how can the artists I mentioned not qualify. I noticed you excluded Isbell in the quote, but he is in the same boat (country/americana).

Bruce Springsteen is also considered americana, but I doubt anyone would compare him to Gillian Welch.

The music on the country charts isn't country so it really doesn't matter. If the garbage played on country radio can be considered country, then those songs listed can be considered country
