Yes' bassist, founding member, and only musician never replaced, died this morning. I openly hate prog rock, but man, he was part of one of rock's all-time great rhythm sections. Unlike a lot of other prog bands, Yes could f'n SWING. And that was because Squire could lay down a groove like few others.

He was a legend and by all accounts, a really nice guy. He'll be missed. Even by this punk rock fan.

That bass on Long Distance Runaround alone should immortalize him.

It is a travesty that he died without Yes being inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. He and Jon Lord of Deep Purple should have had that honor years ago.

RIP to one of my favorite all-time musicians.
I have tickets to see YES in The Woodlands in August.
I suspect they'll cancel the joint YES/Toto tour.

Truly a GOAT candidate. Kicking myself for not seeing them in Biloxi recently now.

Man what a Bummer. Squire was one of the best without question. Was lucky enough to see him a couple times in his prime. Their show around 1980 in the round was one of the best concerts I ever witnessed. I have tickets to see Yes/ToTo at Beau Rivage in August.

I really hate to say this, but I went to see them here in KC about 6 months ago to make sure I caught Steve Howe before he passed. I'm feeling pretty sick to admit that, but Yes was my first love. My first album ever purchased was Yessongs. Here's to the man!!

Yep, so glad I went and saw them at the Ryman when they came a few months ago. He sounded great and was moving around like a 40 year old. This is very surprising.

Rest in Peace

It's longish, but it gets pretty funny around 5 minutes or so.

Chris Squire of Yes - Meeting Jimi Hendrix

I also love Jon's "Tony and Me" memoir, which I posted recently; even as an old man, he shines light out of every pore of his body.

And here's Steve, my favorite guitarist, having a Christian Bale moment with a less than satisfactory lighting tech.

I'm gonna come fricking kick you in the head!

That's some hilarious shite. "You too should be a vegetarian".

Steve also has told a story about hanging around with Eric Clapton, with Clapton being impressed that Steve could play Classical Gas, which Steve was baffled he didn't write himself, as that was the sort of music he was making at the time of "Clap". The real irony is that searching Youtube and elsewhere, Classical Gas has been widely attributed to Eric Clapton, who didn't write it, and never played it. It was just some Napster bullshite.

I still have the T-shirt from the "Yes in the Round" concert. For me, it was like a religious experience. I saw YES in Grand Prairie last year and Squire was as good as I remembered. Glad I caught them while I still could.
