not much of a music board when a Grateful Dead thread is ignored

I've got the Truckin' Up To Buffalo DVD the dead put out a long time ago. Really good show, and the highlight is a killer Morning Dew. They cut to him during the peak of the jam and he has the most faraway look in his eyes! He was playing and playing well, but his eyes indicated that he was in a galaxy far far away!

Really one of the better musicians to be a part of their journey, rip.

I forgot how young Brent was when he died ... 37 yrs old

I attended several GD shows during the Spring 90 tour as his death came out of nowhere. IIRC, the band got Bruce Hornsby to fill in until they could audition for a full time keyboardist. Vince got the job and sadly he ended up committing suicide due to depression , cancer, and not being invited to the Family Reunion tour after the fat man passed.

Man...that is exactly how I have described him in the past--he just had a hollow look near the end.

Ironic part is that, IMO, one of the best Dead runs was Spring 1990--just before he died.

Pigpen...RIP
Brent......RIP
Keith......RIP--but eff you for bringing your wife into the mix.

Loved Brent. His Hammond B3 on Don't Ease Me In was one of the things that made an impression on me at my first show. I barely knew any of their songs and that became my first favorite. I was fortunate enough to see his last five shows. Easy To Love You, Just A Little Light, Dear Mr. Fantasy, Far From Me, Hey Pocky Way.

It sucked so bad when he died. My first show was in '87 and the band was sounding better than I'd ever seen them by 1990. They were never the same after Brent passed.

The crazy thing is that his last show in Chicago on July 23 was the 10 year anniversary of Keith Godchaux's death. I remember talking about it that day, none of us knowing we'd be seeing Brent for the last time.
