This sounds like it could be pretty interesting...

MEMBERS OF MIDLAKE, BAND OF HORSES, FRANZ FERDINAND, GRANDADDY AND TRAVIS BREAK BREAD AS 'BNQT' INDIE SUPER GROUP TO RELEASE DEBUT ALBUM ' VOLUME 1' APRIL 28!
BNQT, a new collaborative conceived and led by Eric Pulido of Midlake, have announced the release of their debut album 'Volume 1' on April 28 via Bella Union (UK/Euro), Dualtone (US), and Entertainment One company. The introductory set includes ten new, original songs and features five vocalists – Ben Bridwell of Band of Horses, Alex Kapranos of Franz Ferdinand, Fran Healy of Travis, Jason Lytle of Grandaddy, and Pulido – who wrote and sing two tracks each, with backing from other Midlake members McKenzie Smith (drums), Joey McClellan (guitar) and Jesse Chandler (keys). ‘Volume 1’ was recorded and produced mostly at Redwood Studios in Denton, TX while being mixed/mastered by Matt Pence at The Echo Lab in Argyle, TX.
?
The concept of BNQT(pronounced “Banquet”) came to Pulido while touring for Midlake's 2013 release, 'Antiphon.' Gathering a number of contrasting yet complementary artists he’d befriended or shared the stage with, Pulido set out to establish a new creative environment untethered from other work – “Like a poor man’s version of the Traveling Wilburys!” he says.
"That's what art is about for me," Pulido continues, "creating with other people that you love and appreciate."
The idea for BNQT was enthusiastically embraced by all involved, but with the artists stretched across the globe, recordings were split both with travel to Denton and remotely over the net. Over a year and some change, songs grew from demos to fully realized recordings, with the core group guiding the way, and encouraging the artists to stretch out into new, uncharted territory. The resulting work is full of surprises, a collection that feels oddly familiar and attractively alien.
For now, feast on album opener "Restart" and feel free to share:

The first song released, "Restart" is pretty good. I'm anxious to see how this turns out, as I like all the bands / vocalists involved.

Is there anything more pretentious than the term "Supergroup" for bands? It makes me want to burn their records, not listen to them

Adjectives make you want to burn records?

Call them whatever you want - supergroup, collab, etc. Lots of pretentious artists have made great music, so why should anything but the music itself influence your decision to like it? Do you hate all "supergroups"? Travelling Wilburys, A Perfect Circle, Crosby Stills, Nash, and Young, Cream, Temple of the Dog, Mad Season, or EVEN Audioslave???

I doubt it was the band's idea to be called a supergroup. Or that they insisted on being called one. It's just what fans/journalists/record labels refer to groups like this as.

I enjoyed the single by the way.

Whole album is streaming at LINK

Listened a couple times. It's actually better than I thought it would be. It's got a lot more instrumentation and production than what I was expecting. Loving the tracks by Band of Horses, Grandaddy, and Travis lead singers.

The album itself seems like a bunch of singles, and doesn't have much of a flow. But the songs are all pretty good. Some tracks are even sort of Floyd-like psychedelic, which threw me off.

I'll try to check the whole thing out tomorrow, but I really liked the opener. It sounded kind of like pre-Currents Tame Impala to me.

Full album is out today. You guys are missing out on some good tunes if you haven't given this band a listen. The album gets better with each listen.

My favorites so far:

Unlikely Force (Band of Horses lead vocals)

Mind of a Man (Travis Lead Vocals)

Tara (Band of Horses lead vocals)

Hey Banana (Franz Ferdinand lead vocals). Weird song name, but think Franz Ferdinand mixed with early Syd Barrett Pink Floyd.
