50s 60s 70s 80s 90s
Each one of those decades were a reinvention. Like 5 different fingers on the same hand. After the 90s things got less and less refreshed.

I'm thinking the 80s.
My original thought was 70s, but the 80s a close second. Rock, Disco, New Wave, the punk, metal, and alternative scenes were coming to life as was hip hop. The 70s and 80s were both huge.

This has been covered several times, 1965-1975 is the answer.

1963-1972. That's when rock/pop transformed from music almost exclusively about teen love to … a playground of experimentation, where subject matter and musical forms were nearly unlimited.

If you go by strictly the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, etc. - I would say the 1960s.
But in reality, the 10-year period I would choose would be 1966-1976 and it really isn't even close.
You had Flower Power, Rock, Folk, British Invasion, One-Hit Wonders, Instrumentals, Soul/R&B, Disco, Electronic, Pop, Heavy Metal/Hard Rock, Country etc.:
Beatles, The Stones, Beach Boys, Motown,
Elton John
CSNY
Bob Dylan
Simon and Garfunkel
Mamas and Papas
The Hollies
Carole King
Pink Floyd
Don McLean
The Doors
Gerry and the Pacemakers
Paul Mauriat
The Byrds
The Animals
Mason Williams
Johnny Rivers
Steely Dan
Eric Clapton
James Brown
Jefferson Airplane/Starship
Righteous Brothers
Blood Sweat Tears
Elvis Presley
Earth Wind Fire
Queen
ELO
Jacksons
Turtles
Diana Ross
Herb Alpert
Marvin Gaye
Petula Clark
Temptations
Billy Joel
Bee Gees
Three Dog Night
The Spinners
The Four Tops
Harold Melvin
Brook Benton
Chicago
Smoky Robinson and Miracles
Doobie Brothers
Bill Withers
Seals and Crofts
America
Boston
Queen
Janis Joplin
Jimi Hendrix
John Denver
The Carpenters
James Taylor
Moody Blues
Grateful Dead
Neil Young
Allman Brothers
Lynyrd Skynrd
Jim Croce
John Fogarty
Yes
Gerry Rafferty
Gary Wright
KC and Sunshine Band
Peter Frampton
(In fact, the 15 year period from 1963-1978 would be even better)
I see several people had '62-'73, '65-'75, '63-'72, 60s, 70s, etc.

Whichever decade you were a teenager-young adult. That's when music is most the most important to you. It becomes the soundtrack of your life. Once you enter the adult world, by necessity it begins to diminish in importance.

I love the responses. I'm sort of new to this board so I'm sorry if this has been covered. I like the answer mid 60's to mid 70's. This was before my time but I definitely loved the music.
After the grunge bands in the 90s music has been pretty stagnant.

2010's
There's more great music out there than ever before and it's easier to find than it's ever been. There is literally something for everybody. if you can't find new music you like in this day and age then you've got nobody to blame but yourself.
