I would say my favorites are:

KUTX 98.9.-Univ of TexasThey play and showcase some amazing artists. They have some great SXSW live coverage

KEXP 90.3-univ of Washington -with Seattle's music scene so rich with talent . I tune into this station. Always plays a great variety

WERS 88.9-Emerson college . They even play zydeco lol

KALX 90.7-Cal Berkely- encourage Their DJs to play across the genres.

WTBU-89.3-Boston U. Well Stern got his start there . Their signal is weak from what I hear but most people now listen over the net

KWVA 88.1-Univ of Oregon. I hear their BPM might be the best .. Also showcase a good bit of indie and grunge

KLSU 91.1-LSU use to be pretty good but I feel they have dropped off a bit .

What's you all's favorites

I loved KLSU when I lived in BR. I'm not a big fan of KUTX. Am I missing something?

KUTX will showcase music from all the world .. They do a good job of tha IMO while playing Gary Clark Jr., shakey graves, spoon, Ben folds crazy shite, modest mouse, Hayes Carll, Courtney Barnett just to name a few . Have good interviews as well .

I loved KLSU as well . In the 90's they might have been in the top 5. Had some great Dj's that played everything .

Maybe I'll give KUTX another shot. It's only been around a few years. When I moved to Austin, I was surprised to find that it really didn't have a dedicated college radio station.

I still love KLSU. They're definitely the best station anywhere near B.R.

KXUA at the University of Arkansas can be really good at times. Their rotation is interesting and eclectic, and they have some great genre shows.

I figure Arkansas would have a good college radio station. Lot of good bands like to go to NW Arkansas and play at George's Majestic Lounge

Rotation wise, the music on the station trends much more underground and obscure than the stuff that plays at George's. More of the house show scene. They do have genre shows (jamband, alt.country, edm, etc..) that cover more of the George's mix.

KUTX is fantastic.
I also really like KRVS out of Lafayette.

No one hear listens to WTUL?

Apparently Leonard Nimoy and DeForrest Kelly once did an interview with someone at the station, as in the '80s I heard this classic promo:

NIMOY: I always listen to WTUL whenever I'm in New Orleans. I find it fascinating.

KELLY: You would.

Unfortunately, it's internet only except for some rare playing on XMU. It's a crime that this is not a regular station. So much better than First Wave, and I like First Wave.

Moving from BR to Laffy, I really enjoyed switching from KLSU to KBON on that ride.

Now I'm in ATX, and KUT & KUTX are good in my book.

KLSU was great into the very early 90s, but somewhere around '94 or so, they sold out to the alt. rock format... it was very disappointing! Not really sure when they eventually went back to a more traditional, college, free format station (or if they did)..

That's when all the bumper stickers cropped around town that said SUKS in the old KLSU logo...

In the 2000s there wasn't an alt rock format. Mostly indie stuff.
