My favorite track Gadd played on is 50 Ways to Leave Your Lover. That groove is amazing

Cool, I always liked that song. Will give it another listen.

I'm going to hit with a very specific type of people here but Jose Pasillas of Incubus is my pick. Dude's good

Charlie Watts has to be one of the most underrated drummers ever. Not the most technical but solid as a rock. I've had many older guitar players tell me CW's their favorite drummer of all time.

First one I thought of.

Another is the Pointer Sisters with Gaylord Birch. If you're only familiar with the Pointers hits from the '80s, check out this cover of Allen Toussaint's Yes We Can Can from a live show in 1974.

Maybe by millennials but he was pretty well respected in their heyday.

No one will ever sound like the Police, thanks in part to Stewart.

I also think a lot of people don't respect how great Igor Cavallera formerly of Sepultura is:

Territory so much fricking groove

The correct answer to any question that deals with music or musicians is Sepultura/Soulfly.

Saw Soulfly a few months ago and Max's son is now the full time touring drummer and the young man can beat the frick out of em.

Any legit black or death metal bands over any listed in op.

Meh. I like Charlie and he was "right" for the Stones. But even Ringo Starr didn't need other folks to come in and play tricky parts for him. For all practical purposes, the "underrated" drummer for the Stones is Jimmy Miller, not Charlie Watts.

You've clearly never seen Adam Gray or Matt Halpern then if your argument is for "any legit black or death metal bands".

Yeah, he was damn good and that was well known.

Trivia answer - Fred Leblanc - Cowboy Mouth. I saw him sit in as Dash Riprock's replacement drummer for one of their shows; pre Cowboy Mouth. He could play some drums.

He was their drummer for a while before CM. And even in the early days of CM, he was fricking awesome.

As far as the mention of Jimmy Miller/Charlie Watts.... great point. Miller was a great producer and oversaw the greatest era of the Stones. I think it was Miller who played drums on Gimme Shelter

That was slick.
Birch's work reminded me of The Meters drummer, Ziggy Modeliste. He should probably be on this list somewhere as well.
