Not underrated but I just have to say that Russ Kunkel, Jim Keltner and Steve Jordan kick/kicked arse.

Session players and sidemen, but whatever.

Same here. And I didn't get that appreciation until I started drumming.

Just saw Carlock for the third time with Dan. The guy has made such an impact on drummers and drumming, his solos are amazing. Got to meet him a couple of years back, super nice guy.

He's incredible, one of my favorites.

Also, Jon Fishman.

Good one.

Larry Mullen Jr from U2.

I don't think he's underrated.

I have a couple:

(Staying with the Punk theme) Tommy Ramone

And, Pete Thomas (Elvis Costello - The Attractions and The Imposters)

Yeah, most drummers and prog nerds know that Carl Palmer is an animal, but outside of that, he's largely unknown.

That gong solo, though.

Terry Bozzio - Missing Persons.

He played with Frank Zappa before co-founding Missing Persons, but was overshadowed in that band by his smoke-show wife.

Always thought that Roger Taylor of Queen was underrated. He and John Deacon were an outstanding combination, IMO. He and Tony Thompson are 2 of my favorites.

Bill Stevenson was the drummer for Black Flag (well, for a time, but in their most prolific period), the Descendants, and All. He was a key member in two of the greatest hardcore bands of all time, and All is pretty great as well, though not quite as elite. He's also one of the biggest producers in punk rock.

Underrated figure in the punk scene.

Also, Janet Weiss of Sleater-Kinney is terminally underrated, but that's because she's one of the best rock drummers of her era, and she doesn't get credit for it.
