Looks sharp man!!

You even have an empty shelf in that rack ready for a second Odyssey amp!.

BTW...I should be around all weekend--let me know if you want me to do the set up.
I may run to Thibadoux to Audio Dave's place--I will let you know if I do. He has a mega rig--something to see and hear!

I believe he is still using Odyssey amps (the bigger ones) to run the mids in his tri-amped (vertically and horizontally) system...(6 mono amps total--mono blocks on the sub towers, on the mids, and another set of monos on the ribbon tweeters).

Went to half priced books last night and picked up a few used LPs. I always seem to find a slightly better copy of Gunfighter Ballads and Trail Songs when I go in there so I have like 4 copies now. Picked up Johnny Cash at San Quentin, a Pretenders album and a few others I am now forgetting

Old school here, all pioneer. SX450(15 watts), SX580 (25 watts) and SX650(35 watts). PL530 turntable, pair of pioneer towers and unknown brand floors cabinets. Previous system was all pioneer also. SX1080 Receiver (120 watts), RT707 reel, RG1 dynamic expander, SG9500 EQ, SCF1250 cassette with pioneer floor cabinets with 18" woofers. Solid system that would rock!

Great info.

Along those lines, do you have any experience with Klipsch's Heresy speakers? The old man has some Heresy II's. Always loved the sound. Wouldn't mind picking up a pair, but my only option would be to go the pre-owned route.

I have never owned a pair of Klipsch speakers. I have stated earlier in this thread that the Klipschorn sound just has never been my taste. That is not saying that it is not a good speaker, it just a different kind of sound than what I have come to like over the years (it is a horn loudspeaker afterall).

Just remember that the Heresy need be placed in a corner--and they are quite large--and they have a very poor WAF (wife acceptance factor--if that is a concern).

...BUT...if you pair the Heresy with a good low powered push/pull, pentode power amp with some EL-34 power tubes, the result can be magical!

Thanks for the response. WAF is not a factor, but huge loud speakers might not be the best choice as I'm trying to downsize.

For anyone who is interested, here's a pair available in the GNO area I came across while browsing yesterday.

Got a new turntable and my new vinyls are STILL skipping. I now have a good turntable and have tried adjusting the arm weight but nothing gives. I know there is no way in hell that I got so unlucky as to get a bunch of new vinyls that are defective. I have old as hell vinyls that play perfectly, the majority of my vintage ones do.

Can anyone give me any clue as to what I should try? I have an audio-technica. This version:
LINK

I have tried adjusting the arm weight and the anti-skate but I really don't know if I am just missing the right combination or what. Any suggestions? Is it possible that my new records need to be wiped down, maybe something from packaging got stuck into the grooves? I just don't know why this happens on all my new vinyls and not on the old ones, the old ones only skip if I see an obvious scratch on the record.

Logjam,

I had a pair of heresy 1's for about 20 years. I thought they were pretty much what most think. Great highs, pretty good mids, almost non existent bass. When I sold them I paired them with a sub to check them out, the sound was much much better. I would definitely pair them with a sub. They are also built like a tank and will last a very long time. They can play loud.

That price on the 2's seems pretty reasonable. That's about what I got for mine even after twenty years. not bad! At worst you could keep for a while if you don't like em you could probably get your money back.

Another place for a lot more info is the klipsch website forums. Helpful folks over there. They sell gear too.

Makin moves Marco! Makin moves.

Pickin up a mac c50 this weekend! And after much teeth gnashing and indecision, going with the mc275. Hopefully I can find a good used version 6 in about a month. I really wanted to listen to the pass xa30 bad.

I was concerned about mixing a ss pre with a tube amp but mac says no problem. Most people seem to do it the other way around

Actually, I wanted to get the solid state version of my pre (C500P) and the MC2301 monos, but since I leave my rig on 24/7/365--it runs the HT as well--I would be re-tubing the power amps every 4 months--so there's no way I could do tube amps for the main rig.

Tube power and SS pre will most certainly work...and work beautifully!

Congrats on the decision. There are MC275 VI on AGon almost weekly. They are FANTASTIC amps.

So after posting earlier I took a break and went back to trying to balance the tone arm again. I did it exactly the same as before, so I think, but now it is playing my new vinyl with no skips!

Couple of questions, though.

A) How do I know I didn't put too much weight on it and am ruining my records?

B) Should I adjust it back the other way when I put on my vintage vinyls since those were playing fine before?

I just don't want to ruin the albums, although I don't play any over and over again so I guess it wont be so much of a record ruining issue as a cartridge ruining issue.

There is a guy in the audio club here in NOLA that has 2 complete Mac systems for sale--they were part of an estate of a very wealthy oil guy in Houston that died--he had multiple rigs in New Orleans, Houston, and Montana.

I can get you in touch with him if you want--he will make you a good deal. He has the pieces at his place in Mandeville if you want to see/hear them. He also has a few pair of high end Sonus Fabers as well.

I believe one of the pre amps is a C50 and I know there is an MC275 MK. VI as well.

Let me know and I will give you my contact info...

This. My dad was given a pair of these (the guy was going to throw them away!!) and he gave them to me. They have very little bass, which was pretty disappointing. My Marantz Imperial 6G's had very strong Low's...really too strong. I slightly prefer the 6G's but the Heresy's allow me to crank the volume up a little higher and not damage my toddler's hearing! But yes, the highs and mids on the Heresys are awesome.

Separate question...And I'll probably post this on the tech board too. I've been trying to find a way to stream audio (Spotify, Itunes, etc) from my iphone to multiple devices (other iphones / tablets) using the wifi in my house. I've used Airfoil and it works pretty good, but you can only stream from a laptop / desktop. There's a workaround where you can airplay from your phone to the laptop and then stream that to multiple devices, but I don't feel like having a laptop on 24/7 or have to boot one up every time I want to do something like this. Is there any way to do this? Can this be done with Apple Airport Express?

I want to do this because I'd like to set up another set of speakers in another room with another amp. It'd be cool to be able to play music on both systems at the same time.

Marco,

Absolutely!! How can I get in contact with you or your friend?

Also, can you recommend a good, reasonable balanced cable for the mac?

Thanks!

I use Acoustic Zen Matrix Reference II and XLO Electric interconnects and Nordost speaker cables.

AZ makes a couple lines under mine that are also good. Nordost has many teirs of cabling from White Lightning all the way to Odin. Just depends on how much you want to spend.

There is a guy on AGon in Arizona that always sells Acoustic Zen Matrix Ref II balanced 1m for around $340...they are $600 from a retailer.
