Artists Crossing Genres

What are some artists that can crossover into any genre effortlessly? I would expect quite a few progressive rock/metal bands to be able to fit, but who are some others?

I'm not sure about effortlessly, but Aaron Lewis is one of the best country singers of this decade.

I like his music, but is that due more to his talent, or the lack of quality country music these days? I mean aside from guys like Stapleton, Sturgill, Zac Brown, and Eric Church.

Wilco hands down. One of the most diverse acts IMO.

Grateful Dead were masters at it.

The guy with a southern accent in his country songs even though he was born in Vermont, and raised in Massachusetts? There may not be a bigger phony going today.

At the risk of a second String Cheese post in one day, they can go pretty easily from bluegrass to rock to funk to new wave.

What about the "Canadian" country singers like Shania who sing with a southern accent?
Or Jo Dee Messina (born and raised in Massachusetts)?

Welp, Taylor Swift is from Reading PA and can sing really Southern. She can do pop, bubblegum, country, soul, rap, whatever.
What about the Bay Area musicians of the 1960s/70s? CCR could do old time rock and roll, country, psychedelic rock, swamp blues & rock, etc. Also the Doobie Brothers, could diversify between Southern swamp rock and R&B with amazing ease.

It doesn't matter where the guy was raised. He writes his own lyrics, and puts together his own music. I can respect that a hell of a lot more than Luke Bryan.

One of the best was Linda Ronstadt: Rock, pop, country, Latin, Broadway, Opera, Jazz, Great American Songbook.
I feel that Lady Gaga could sing any genre she wanted and nail it.

Kid Rock, although almost all of it is "pop" music, it is different genres of pop. Alternative rock, rap, modern country, blues.

I agree, and the 70s had a lot of country/rock/pop crossovers. The Eagles (I know, polarizing, but definitely popular and talented) hit a lot of different charts. Poco pioneered that type of "country rock." Kenny Rogers had a number of hits that crossed over during the decade, as did Dolly Parton. This extended to a whole range of country artists who had pop or rock friendly overtones. It may have been amplified by The Urban Cowboy phenomenon (as had disco by Saturday Night Fever, another Travolta film, just a few years before).

I think it's been stated by several music experts that Devin Townsend just needs his own genre. There's no classifying him.

Nitty Gritty Dirt Band
"Is it folk or rock or country, whoa! seems that everybody cares but us..."
And they could play some bluegrass too.

I went to a concert where they went from playing a super upbeat song to covering Hallelujah
