They have a new album coming out on Friday. There's a silly YouTube video of the first single:

Southern Trains

I used to be annoyed as hell with their song "I Believe In A Thing Called Love", but a friend insisted I dig deeper...surprisingly, I ended up liking alot of their material. Many songs sound like AC/DC, Queen, and Thin Lizzy put in a blender (incidentally, their current drummer is Roger Taylor's son). Looking forward to the new album, and I know the downvotes are coming

First album had 4 or 5 really good songs. Lost track after that. I kind of dug them. Damn, that Southern Trains video is bizarre as hell, but the song is good.

Agreed. That Queen influence is showing there, and in the backing vocals too.

Never saw 'em, but based on the live clips I've seen, they look like it'd be a fun show to check out.

I lost track, too. They kinda became an afterthought in the US, it seems, but apparently they've been chugging along. I listened to Last Of Our Kind the other week (thanks, Amazon Prime), and I enjoyed it alot, so I ordered that and Hot Cakes, along with the pre-order for the new album. Still like the debut...it was nice to see a new band (at the time) come along and show no shame playing old-school rock, with guitar solos and all...

Just found out they'll be in Atlanta around the end of April, on a Saturday night no less. Tickets only $25-30, might be worth checking out...

I actually still listen to them occasionally. They're a lot of fun. Thanks for the heads up. A good friend of mine was actually a much bigger fan than I, and had the DJ play one of their songs at his wedding. It was a little awkward.

I was actually thinking of them the other day. They reminded me of Wolfmother and that prompted me to queue up the first Wolfmother album

Really digging this new album, thanks!

Rock n roll is a more interesting place with bands like The Darkness still putting out new stuff. The new indie, techno, semi-hip/hop, folk, disco crap posing as “alt rock” these days is begging for some old school influence like this.

Funny, I posted this thread on a couple of other boards, and I thought for sure it'd catch the most heat over here...it's actually gone much better than I'd expected, lol

On another board, this 80's metal purist went on a big whiny rant on how The Darkness were making a mockery of that era, as if many of those bands didn't do a good enough job earning that ridicule on their own. He's convinced they're a parody band...I have to keep telling him just because they're having fun & not taking themselves overly serious, that doesn't make them a "parody band".
