Anyone ever see MUSE live?

I am heading to Staples for their show this weekend and stoked. Anyone have some insight? Phanogram is opening for them.

A coworker of mine just saw them and had two major takeaways:
1) he said they sounded really good, like almost studio quality
2) said their visual displays at the show are cool. He showed me a video of a part where a big hologram of a hand with puppet strings on it comes up and makes it look like he is making the lead guitarist move. Hard to describe but I'll try and find a video
Edit: here it is LINK

Saw them open for U2 in Houston. They were fantastic

Mate, I may be taking the misses to Staples to see the lads before we fly out to Japan for the holidays.
And I also saw them open for U2 in Atlanta during the 360 tour. Lofty band, this will probably be the best concert I've seen in 2015 - only Grimes and Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds would be competitive.
No doubt that the 2016 winner will be the legendary Coldplay

Have some good footage out there with them. Seen one on Paladia from the O2 and it looked very cool visually. They sound crisp always IMO

Saw them at Voodoo Fest a few years back. Good show. I can't say I'm a huge fan of their music but it was entertaining.

Saw them at the Tabernacle in Atl a decade ago and in Oakland in 2012. They're a world class live act.
ETA: also saw them at Voodoo a few years back.

Dallas a couple years ago. FANTASTIC show. To echo what others have said, the sound is phenomenal. Matt is a maniac. We were about 3 deep from the front.

MUSE used to be a ridiculously great show. One of the best stage shows out there along with great performance by the band.
....then The 2nd Law happened. Their popularity has soared, and so have their egos. I traveled to Houston for their last two tours, and they were two completely different experiences. T2L tour was so contrived and staged that I was close to walking out. Don't get me wrong, the visuals were still stunning along with their musicianship; however, the quality that made them great was no longer their.
What I loved about them was their ability to jam and feel the music. They would play riffs in between songs (Zepplin, ACDC, etc) and jam, and their playlist songs still felt organic and real. This last show was anything but.
You will most likely enjoy it if you can get past this or if it doesn't bother you, but for me I was completely turned off. If I had not seen them prior to this last tour, maybe my opinion would be different. They have gone the Kings of Leon road in my opinion: popularity turned them into a group of people who feel they are more important than they really are. Plus I don't like this last CD at all.

You think their popularity has soared more from The 2nd Law on than it did from Black Holes and/or The Resistance? I disagree.

Please describe in greater detail what you mean. I saw them on that tour and also just watched the Live from Rome DVD from that tour, and I think it's incredible.

Fun show. I saw me in Atlanta 2 years ago for free. I think it was at the final 4 concert thing.

I'll be at the Staples center show as well. Saw them at acl in 2013. Incredible

This is their Drones tour. Personally, my favorite is the Resistance...2nd Law was alright, but a very different brand. Overall, love them. Looking forward to it.

I saw them at ACL.
Typically festival sets suck, for all bands.
The acoustics are poor, there's less time to level set, everyone's running off of the same board all day so the mix isn't the best, the bands typically care less than if the were just putting on their own show, the time is limited, etc.
But despite all that, MUSE at ACL was one of the best shows I have ever seen. They are performers. They realize they are there to entertain. They work for the money. Sound great, too. Not one of those bands that sounds awful live, or doesn't care. I would definitely recommend paying to see MUSE live.

Bellamy is the greatest rock star of this era. And Chris and Dominic are absolute beasts on their respective instruments.

Best live shows I've ever seen. I even got to see them at the Verizon Theater in Houston in 2006. Unreal!

Yeah they didn't play a ton from T2L and even though it isn't my favorite album of theirs they made it sound great.
T2L and Drones are probably their two weakest albums IMO but they weren't bad live.

You're saying that on T2L tour they didn't play a lot from T2L? They played 8 or 9 out of 13 tracks from that album.

I like Drones, but I think it is their weakest album to date. However, I absolutely loved T2L. The Resistance is my favorite.

The setlist was still mostly older shite. If you take out intro songs that are mostly just played over the PA then the number dwindled. It was just filler to cover the encore and when they came on stage. Setlist.fm has 5/20 songs from T2L for the show I saw but it is wrong. I have video of 2 songs not on the list.
They played pretty much everything I wanted to hear.

Weakest 3 they have for my taste. Absolution was a masterpiece and Origin of Symmetry was amazing. Those two and Showbiz are their top 3 for me. Drones and T2L sound too similar and rely on the same techniques. Marching style drums, heavy and simple drop tuned guitars, and a simple yet melodic bass line. The first 3 were beautiful chaos.

No doubt.
I did like Resistance though, so we disagree there.

I agree completely, though T2L had enough redeeming moments for me to like the record overall... barely.
The problem I have with the last 2 records is Bellamy's lack of vocal orchestration. It comes off as if he is singing for the sake of singing; it is very unoriginal and boring to me. I understand others may still like it, and that's fine. It's a matter of taste.
Musically I think some parts are creative, but overall it was bland... especially Drones. I did not like Drones at all. It's a shame, because I was a big fan of them prior to these 2 records.
I hope those who are going enjoy the show. I personally do not like their live act now, but that's just me.
