Anyone else think most new music sounds like 80's music?

War on Drugs and Future Islands sound really 80's to me, as does most of the stuff that I hear on xmm/college radio stations ect. Anyone else think so?

I am not a huge fan of it, outside of War on Drugs and Future Islands most of it sounds pretty crappy.

I can get that vibe from some, but then I can also pick out stuff that sounds like it's from the 60's, and also stuff that is unique to today... I kind of enjoy how it blends.

Yeah that's true. Just seems that xmu especially is mostly synthpop sounding stuff now.

Yeah, I can agree with that, but CHVRCHES is considered synthpop and I like them a lot, but I can do without a pretty good chunk of the rest of it.

I don't listen to much of XMU. It's on my favorites that I cycle through, but I usually find myself on Alt Nation more than XMU, but I do listen to a countdown if it's on just to catch something new.

I like some synthpop bands, Future ISlands would probably be considered synthpop. Just seems to really have made a comeback, was very much an 80's genre til recently now a ton of bands are doing it.

War On Drugs kind of reminds me musically of Bruce Springsteen's 80's stuff, I like them a lot though.

Yes. One example is Childish Gambino's new stuff. Listen to his mixtape Kauai. One of his older songs "Heartbeat" has a Stevie B feel to it as well.
