Interested in sharing a few of your cuts in this thread?

ETA: If you add music links, please add some production notes, as well.

I write, play and sing. My band is putting together a 5- or 6-song EP; I'll share some of it when it's done. I'm interested in opinions.

The name of our band in Chevy Van Gogh, we're on facebook somewhere. It's possible my bandmates, who are far more technically adept than I am, have posted a song or two on our page.

Just watched a video link. Which player are you? Reminded me of a cross between Johnny Cash and the Moody Blues for some reason.

You mean that 50-second clip that our drummer for some reason wanted to post? Being an anti-technology guy, I have almost nothing to do with our facebook page; the other guys are techie types who love fooling around with that stuff.

I'm the old fat dude with the long gray hair and marginal voice --but the other guys can't sing at all, so ...

Johnny Cash and the Moody Blues? That's an enormously imaginative interpretation of our style, but it's as good as any other I've heard.

I write all the shite and I'm all over the place--mainstream, spoken word, blues, anything. Song material is everything from typical breakup songs to dream interpretation to elderly suicide to ... well, one of my favorite songs is about a Russian guy who murders a soldier and tries to flee the Motherland down the Volga River. I have maybe 60-70 originals, and I've vowed to make this a big recording year, no matter what happens.

I'm interested in others' music; I hope this thread draws a lot of attention so we can see what the songwriters here are up to.

There is hardly anything cooler than writing songs, and at my age–61–this includes sex,

Ahh... so you're the singer then. That's where the Johnny Cash reference comes in--in regard to your voice/singing.

I have a bunch of song ideas on my Soundcloud. Most just first takes--nothing completed or polished. Kind of just wanted to get some general impressions. Haven't decided if I'm ballsy enough to post any yet, though. Hopefully others will post some material first.

I'm flattered by the comparson--I don't know if Johnny would be though!

We're going to jam tomorrow, so I'll ask my band mates how I can post a few of our songs on this site.

We gig maybe once a month, which is quite enjoyable, but I am without ambition when it comes to recording and trying to do something with our stuff. Recently, however, my band mates, after years of fruitless debate, have convinced me that we should be pushing out our stuff, and so we're now putting together our first EP (is that what you call it)?

I'd be glad to share our efforts; I mean that's what we do when we gig anyway ...

Praise is always nice, but criticism, even harshly worded, doesn't bother me. If I write something I like, I'm gonna play it regardless of the reactions I get.

I've been in a metal band for years. But I like how it is on here, I like being a useless a-hole on TD.

I hear ya man. I got bored and uploaded this on YouTube a few years ago. Just a simple finger picked instrumental on my little ibanez with the nylons. I have some other stuff on my PC, but I'll keep those to myself, heh heh.

Yep, no.

Ok, maybe later. Our new record dropped Tuesday, and we're all too busy counting our e-cash.

Here are a few unfinished song ideas I've been playing around with--all basically one takes just to get the rough idea down. Pretty awful stuff, but I'm new to DAW recording and have a ton to learn. Played all instruments on the songs (guitars, bass, keyboard) except drums, which are loops. Used Mixcraft 6 for all effects, recording, etc. and a Rocksmith adapter to digitize the instruments.

Song 1 I must have been inspired by Superchunk, Ryan Adams, and The Outfield on this one.

Song 2 Was in an M83 kind of mood here.

Song 3 Holy '80s Craptastic! I I think I had a Kavinsky, Mitch Murder, Rick Springfield, Lionel Ritchie, and Alan Parsons Project moment.

I liked #1 the best. Nice little crescendo around the 4:50 mark.
