I recently read the making of "Chocolate and Cheese" book which was really interesting. I've seen them several times in concert and am always impressed. However, they broke up recently. Aaron Freeman put out a solo album, Deaner is supposed to be putting one out as well. Hopefully they will reunite and make another studio album.

Awesome! Yea I got turned onto them in the early 90s as well. I've seen them in NO (twice), Dallas, LA, and seen Aaron solo twice and even met him. Mickey has a fishing charter if you're interested... LINK

I've done this before and it is always difficult but I would have to place them in this order, depending on what mood I'm in:
1. The Mollusk
2. 12 Country Golden Greats
3. Chocolate and Cheese
4. White Pepper
5. Quebec
6. La Cuaracha
7. Shinola
8. Pure Guava
9. God Ween Satan
10. The Pod

Obviously I'm more of a fan of the middle/later stuff than the real early stuff. The live DVD is fricking legit as well.

I've only gotten to see them twice (both festivals too- Voodoo 09 and Hangout 11) but they killed it both times.

I've also seen Phish play Roses Are Free a fair amount live

When introducing someone to Ween I always start with Pollo Asado - from The Pod. To me, there is no other song in the Ween songbook that is more bizarre, more inexplicable, more Ween than Pollo Asado. It's a 2 and a half minute track consisting of someone ordering Mexican food over a bed of Hawaiian-like music. A baffled friend once told me it sounded like porn music, but he owned everything ever recorded by Bob Seger, so we'll throw out his musical opinion. Remember, these were the days when they hit record and frick around. Deaner created something lovely and rather than write some words to it, they grabbed a menu from a nearby Mexifood place and Gener played customer while Deaner played bigboy. They play it completely straight and no one even notices when they keep fricking up the change. This is a longtime fan favorite that they finally played live for their All Request Live over the innernet CD. If you get this song, you'll get Ween. If you don't, well, there's always Nickelback.

Best thing about all request live is the stallions 1-5 in a row.

My favorite ween song and story is where'd the cheese go. Pizza hut commissioned ween to write a jingle, when the 1st one got rejected they started adding frick in the song. The funk in that song is awesome.

Great song. The album that I show people when trying to get them into Ween is 12 Golden Country Greats. It's just a lot more accesible so that they can try to ease their way into the music. Maybe your approach is better though because I have never succesfully converted anyone. Most people are just scared to get out of their comfort zone.

I usually introduce people to white pepper, its the poppiest of their albums and seems to be the most accessible.

Speaking of Ween, have you heard of The Moist Boyz? It was a Ween side project and a parody of a punk/metal band. The music is great but the lyrics and the whole persona put on are funny as hell!

Mollusk @ hangout

This is one of the greatest concert moments in my life, the mollusk, golden eel and ocean man played while on the beach. It was sublime.

Ween is the closest thing to The Beatles we got in my opinion. Those dudes can write any song they want to, and it would be write on the damn money. Yes I compared Ween to the Beatles and I'll do it every chance I fricking get.
