Something similar to The Cure or The Police?

A Place to Bury Strangers reminds me of '80's type bands. Reminds me of the Jesus and Mary Chain and earlier Cure. Give it a chance.

Interesting, I will definitely follow this thread to check out some of the suggestions. One of my favorite genres.

Check out Ought. They are awesome. Probably more art punk in the vain of The Fall, Talking Heads and Wire than Cure/Police, but they are great.

I don't really feel like linking a song from my phone, but if interested in sampling I'd recommend one of the following songs:

Beautiful Blue Sky
Habit
The Weather Song
Men for Miles
Passionate Turn

Real Estate always reminds me a bit of 80s new wave. More of a Stone Roses sound though.

Interesting. To me, they are more extensions of Television and Big Star. Listen to Days by Television.

Viet Cong is pretty great, as is METZ. But they are more in the Mission of Burma or Big Black area of post-punk.

Maybe you should check out Parquet Courts or Speedy Ortiz. They are a bit more melodic, and are more akin to the Police.

I don't really think it counts, but maybe Imagine Dragons?

Nothing wrong with just listening to bands in the 70s and 80s that did it better.

Protomartyr
Total Control
Ought
Eagulls
Mourn
Destruction Unit
Ex-Cult

ETA: Wel I guess none of these count as new wave, but they all certainly qualify as post-punk. Total Control has some new wave-ish sounding tracks though.

Check out... Beach Slang’s debut LP (they previously put out a couple of EPs), "The Things We Do To Find People Who Feel Like Us"

Probably my favorite record of the year, so far..
