Saw them a few times when I was a teen (and a reunion show a couple times).

I came across thes two 45's while playing through the early '80's boxes (I have all of their 45's--I just haven't come across the others yet...I will as I make my way through all these 45's).

Also have "16 Songs Off a Dead Band's Chest"--the LP.

Great pop songs!

It was also interesting to see that these records were engineered by Camille Boudoin (guitarist from The Radiators)!

Great band. They did a nice version of the old Petula Clark hit, Downtown. The female lead has recently published a vegan cookbook that has gotten good reviews. Bassist is Ellen Degeneris' brother.

I remember seeing them upstairs at the Hammond Social Club in 80 or 81. The high energy of the band combined with all the dancing and the creakiness of the building scared the shite out of me but it was well worth the risk.

I don't know how we all got out alive.

Great band that should have made it bigger.

They were our gateway band from hard rock to punk back in the day. It was a huge controversy back then if you betrayed the Skynyrd loving boys club and got interested in anything resembling new wave or punk. It was a double whammy that they were an excellent live band and had a hot chick out front. My friends and I would have given our eye teeth for a shot at Barbara Menendez.

I remember seeing Vance Degeneres on the Daily Show years ago and thinking "Damn, that guy looks familiar..."

A few years ago we went to see Cowboy Mouth in Atlantic city and Vance had taken over after Pail Sanchez left.
So my wife is standing in front of John Thomas Griffith yelling for him to play China from the Red Rockers and I'm asking Vance to break out some Cold songs.
No luck but got to chat with him after the show for a while

Went to see Barbara Menendez with her band at Carrollton Station a couple of years ago... pretty cool. She's still jumping around and shakin' it all night, and they broke out all her old Cold stuff.

Barbara Menendez was my girlfriend at the time The Cold were popular..... She never knew it...in fact, she didn't even know I existed, but it was real to me.

Yeah, I know - odd thread bump.

But every now and then this band pops into my mind. Was watching some old youtube videos of them this morning and decided to search and see if the music board had ever recognized the greatness that was The Cold. I was just a tad too young to go see them when they were playing, but my brother used to hit their shows. It always boggled my mind how they didn’t become huge nationally. They had some great music - very reminiscent of Blondie. You and Mesmerized were two of the catchiest new wave tunes out at the time. And of course, there was Barbara - always hiking up those short skirts. This has to be the greatest pop band to ever come out of New Orleans.

Mesmerized

You

Not really as the Cold was just inducted into the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame last week. It was at the old Jimmy's, now called the Willow. I heard all but Menendez showed up and they played a short set.

Barbara couldn't be there for some reason but they read a letter from her so there's no bad blood. Apparently they don't plan to do any more reunion shows but never say never I guess.
