RIP to one of the best. 69 years young. The Sunday show at JF when the Brothers followed the Levon Helm Band is one of my favorite musical experiences ever. Thank you, Butch. Go burn one and jam with Duane and Berry.

Relix article about Trucks' passing

Noooooooooo

That's very tragic news. RIP Butch.

And that was the best day at Jazzfest that I ever had.

Yes, same for me. That was a day of legends under sunny skies in an open field, just as the Brothers were meant to be seen.

After the Levon Helm set, one of the guys I was with said, you know we oughta just leave now because there's no way ABB can be better than THAT. How wrong can you be? I've seen the Brothers several times (including a couple of times at Red Rocks) but that was the best set I ever saw them play.

I was writing music reviews for a magazine at the time and had to list my two favorite shows from the fest...basicall I said it would have been Levon's show had the ABB not followed him and blown the sky wide arse open.

Trucks sat down on his amp the entire show with a broken ankle from pickup basketball...

The Whipping Post from that show seriously had me bent back from the power between he and Warren. I will never forget it.

And then Melissa for an encore. I think that was the only time I saw them play it. Unreal.

I have the recording of that set. Now would be a good time to cue that shite up.

ETA: Listening to it now and I had forgotten that Warren dedicated Blind Willie McTell to Levon.

Ouch. That makes sense, as none of the official reports I've seen listed COD.

I also heard this on another forum. Wasn't confirmed and I really hope it isn't true. But it's even sadder if it is.

sad news. I am numb to it now. I realise that the bands my father forced on me are all going to die out rather rapidly now.

Really glad I was able to catch the Allman brothers as much as have.

Wanee 2010 was the most fun weekends of my life.

Mountain jam> Don't keep me wondering start the first night was my shite. LINK

Indeed it is.

As is, I just got home and am about to light the grill and light the green; pour a glass of whiskey and put on my old man's original Eat A Peach vinyl and settle into one. Sad day for those who appreciate REALLY GOOD frickING MUSIC.
