Regardless if you like her poppy music or not, Mariah Careys voice is insane. in half her songs she goes from a sultry baritone to notes only dogs can hear

I agree.
She has quickly become one of the top ten or so most well-respected voices in the history of mainstream music. Her range, power, and emotion, are unchallenged right now.
The only thing holding her back is the influence of outside sources and overproduction. It seems at times like they are trying to turn this beautiful jazz singer into just another Katy Perry when you listen to all of the electronic instrumentation and pop stylings.
Her best songs are easily the most stripped down recordings. Any singer who can sound that powerful with only the accompaniment of a piano or some soft strings is a phenomenal talent.

Personally, not really. She cant event touch Alicia Keys, Pink, and as much as I hate to say it, Beyonce too. Beyonce has an incredible voice. Adele has alot of masculinity in her voice and she sounds very unmusical at certain points in songs. She is one hell of a singer and is technically sound and has a wide range, but her voice can be very off-putting and almost flat sounding.
So to answer your question, I dont think she qualifies as having the best singing voice so I cant compare her to anyone. I would say that Pink may have the best voice since Whitney or something, but certainly not Adele.

True. but, i remember a discussion about her on the OT where a lot of people were saying she sucked because she was fat.
