I’ve been listening to a lot of The National in anticipation of the new album. As tough as this was, I think I would go:

Mistaken for Strangers
Slow Show
Mr. November
Wake Up Your Saints
Terrible Love (alternate version)

I was going to do some honorable mentions, but then I realized I was listing about half their catalogue and pretty much all of Boxer.

What y’all got?

Agree. Impossible to list. All dependent on mood. Got a sneak listen of the new album today. It will not disappoint. A little less melodic, drums a bit more muted but Greg's vocals really take center stage on this one. If you are a National die hard, like myself, you will enjoy it. That being said....

If you can't find something in there, your ears are broken and your heart is hard.

I like a lot of their stuff. My favorite, though, is:

About Today

I really like it's introspective quality and it grabs my attention every time I hear it. Something about the rhythm gives it a sense of motion... sort of reminds me of being lost in thought, maybe during a long run or travelling. And given the melancholic tone and subject, I find the sparse instrumentation over the rhythm and long time gaps between short lines of verse to be clever touches that heighten the sense of loneliness.

I didn't see the movie, but just watched the About Today / Warrior music video on youtube, and it does seem perfectly used there.
