Pretty good music so far and the signal is strong enough to finally give us folks on the Northshore some rock.

New Orleans now has two modern rock stations while Baton Rouge still has zero.

Not my favorite music. But I agree. There is one song the play 45 times a day. I can't stand it.

Listen to the format change

Cumulus Media announces that it will turn on New Orleans’ newest radio station, 106.1 the underground alternative (WMTI-FM), today. The all-new 106.1 the underground alternative will feature 106 minutes of New Rock for New Orleans every day, and signs on today with wall-to-wall music beginning at 3:00 p.m. Eastern. The station also launches its new website, www.1061theunderground.com today. Troy Hanson, Corporate Programming/Rock Formats for Cumulus said: “We are incredibly excited to debut New Orleans’ 106.1 the underground alternative. With key artists like Walk The Moon, Foo Fighters, The Black Keys, Fall Out Boy, Imagine Dragons, Muse, Mumford & Sons and a personal favorite “and more” we plan to give the French Quarter, the Delta and beyond a unique alternative experience 24/7. Look for a ton of music to be delivered as we push out 106 Minutes of New Rock for New Orleans all day, every day. Much thanks go out to Jim Kurdziel, Dan Stone and Ray Mariner as we bring 106.1 the underground alternative to NOLA.” Jeff Brown, Senior Vice President for Cumulus said: “Underground 106.1 fills a significantformat gap in New Orleans. If there is any city that deserves a great Alt brand, it is New Orleans. Fans of Alternative Rock are fiercely loyal, incredibly engaged, and in the age of acquisition. Like our audience, 106.1 the underground will be on the move and all about New Orleans.”

Yeah but is it a real radio station where DJs pick out the groups to fill between the songs getting pushed? Or the same shite we've had where somebody pieces together a list of the same songs, put on infinite loop?

That is what I wish Baton Rouge would get.

I'd kill for a station that plays new bands songs. Instead I have to choose between classic rock, 90s alternative, and pop

104.5/104.9 the X used to be the shite. Real DJs who played what they wanted.

All these Cumulus and I Heart Radio stations are terrible

Ok, I have been listening all night tonight while at work and not to impressed anymore. Every once in a while they play a good song but its been a lot of hipster crap and not much rock. Sadly I had hopes for this station.

When I was at the Zephyr we were allowed 2 "optionals" an hour as long as they were somewhere in our catalog. At the time - I didn't realize how special that was.

Lol Sig works for LiveNation festival division and I am pretty sure Ginty is with 92.3 in NOLA.

Usually - Yes. Our programming director had his own system, though. We had a lot of flexibility because we were independent. We would get some payola over stuff that was "early released" to radio stations so the albums would debut high on the charts. Beyond that - He was neck deep in charts for here and overseas seeing what was hot in college markets, England, etc... and those would get some recurring rotation. Because of this - Whenever some of these artists would break out with their follow ups - We were ahead of the curve. That's where we'd get "We've been playing ________ for years" love from the labels.

You can't still listen to Rob Ryan on 94.5, the buzz, out of Houston on iheartradio. I never liked him, just letting u know he is still on
