List your favorite characters from military movies.

My top two:

Nick Nolte as Lt. Col. Gordon Tall in The Thin Red Line

Sam Elliott as Sgt. Maj. Basil Plumley in We Were Soldiers

George C. Scott - Patton (the feature film, not that crap they put on television years later)

Jack Nicholson - COL Nathan Jessup - A Few Good Men

Clint Eastwood - Gunnery Sergeant Thomas Highway - Heartbreak Ridge

Eric Bana - Hoot - Blackhawk Down

Lee Ermey - every film, television show or other media in which he has appeared, chiefly Full Metal Jacket

Adam Baldwin - Animal Mother - Full Metal Jacket

James Whitmore, Jr. - Lieutenant Archer - The Boys in Company C

Dean Jagger - MAJ/LTC Stovall - Twelve O'Clock High

John Wayne - virtually every military role he played, particularly SGT Stryker - Sands of Iwo Jima

Anthony Hopkins - COL John Frost - A Bridge Too Far

Sean Connery - Major General Roy Urquhart - A Bridge Too Far

James Caan - SSG Eddie Dohun - A Bridge Too Far

Donald Sutherland - Oddball - Kelly's Heroes

Don Rickles - Crapgame - Kelly's Heroes

Telly Savalas - Big Joe - Kelly's Heroes

That's a start. Give me some time and I could probably come up with about 50 more.

Typically favorite doesn't mean all the ones you can come up with.

Uh - those are my favorites - off the top of my head. I could have done 40 or 50 from Blackhawk Down and A Bridge Too Far, alone, if I was naming "all I can come up with".

Lieutenant Colonel Bill Kilgore (Robert Duvall) - Apocalypse Now

General Buck Turgidson (George C. Scott) and General Jack Ripper (Sterling Hayden) were both FANTASTIC in their comedic roles in Dr. Strangelove.
