You're Going to Have to Wait Until at Least 2018 for the Next Seasons of Jessica Jones and Daredevil

Netflix’s Marvel shows are, for now, sticking to a schedule of two shows per year. Which means a long wait for a second season of Jessica Jones, as well as the third season of Daredevil. And possibly an even longer one for the Punisher solo show.
On the TCA press tour, Netflix’s Ted Sarandos confirmed that Daredevil, which we got in April, and Luke Cage, which we’ll get September 30, will be this year’s Marvel offerings. Next year we’ll get the premiere seasons of Iron Fist and The Defenders. And then everything else. Which implies 2018, at the earliest, for season two of Jessica Jones. And season three of Daredevil. And Punisher.
The only good news is, assuming they stick to “two shows a year,” Jessica Jones will be one of the 2018 shows, since it’s supposed to film back-to-back with The Defenders.

So it will be like 3 years in between seasons of Jessica Jones? That's absurd.

So, I guess this will make for cameos and team-ups on the shows that are running? If not, I could see scheduling conflicts of the actors coming into play causing even more delays.

That's pretty dumb. Its ok for a year since it will still be fairly fresh in your mind what happened in the previous season. But two or three years? That sucks. frick that and I was looking forward to a new season of DD.

It is absurd. I don't want them to churn out crap, but surely they can do better than that.

Damn! That JJ superhero sex was hot.

Honestly now that they have the actors locked in and good ratings from Netflix they need to go a series for each character a year. Right now Krysten Ritter is great for the role of Jessica Jones. Five years from now she might look like Meg Ryan after the botched face lift.
Strike while the iron is hot.

Defenders happens in 2017 though, correct?

Isn't Daredevil, the Punisher, Iron Fist, The Defenders, Luke Cage, and Jessica Jones all essentially in the same general area/universe?
So in theory couldn't they all film in roughly the same timeframe/area? Or at least film parred down seasons that are "united" in The Defenders?
It just seems silly to push off Jessica Jones that far when it was a pretty well received show.

I knew this would happen when they started announcing all these new shows. They need to do 3 or 4 series a year. Its not like there's just one group of people doing all the shows.

Netflix apparently has placed its break even point at 2 produced shows per year at current subscriber rates

The flip side of that is producing 2 shows a year instead of 4-5 cuts your costs in half. Make no mistake money is the reason behind this. They turned down picking up the cancelled Agent Carter because some international rights holders weren't willing to give up their rights meaning they wouldn't have global distribution rights for it. It still would have been a net positive for them, and some of their biggest "Originals" are UK shows that they get the US rights for like Peaky Blinders.

So Luke Cage at the end of September, Iron Fist early in 2017, and Defenders later in 2017?
Maybe having every character in the Defenders is presenting a unique scheduling conflict that wouldn't occur in other years. Hopefully by 2018 they can get 3 in one year.
Also, have they said what the episode count for Defenders will be? 4-6 was what I think I heard a long time ago. But that short a run would shoot holes in my scheduling conflict theory, IMO.

Good lord. That's some Sopranos-esque season gapping right there.
I am not a big comic person. To wit, I was over at a friend's last year and she wanted me to watch Jessica Jones so we watched a few episodes together. I was vaguely aware of its existence (mostly that it was a Netflix exclusive and that it starred Krysten Ritter).
Anyway, it didn't dawn on me that this series had source material until the second episode. I really liked it, super intense stuff. But I am so lost on the background.

Ha.
Too many shows and properties, people complain.
Marvel gives shows a little breathing room, and it isnt enough.
