I agree. I think a lot of people were freaked out by Hank Hill, a small town conservative who was very open to new ideas as they applied to his life experiences. They probably wanted Homer Simpson, who was controlled by his count daughter (not Maggie, she's a red-meat conservative).

And got usurped by the goddamn Cleveland Show. Since you're so smart, explain that.

Let's not act like it wasn't given a fair run when it ran for 13 years. When shows run for that long they get more expensive over time.

The Cleveland Show was made b/c Fox was having success w/Seth MacFarlane shows.

It was likely much cheaper to produce than KotH due to the latter's age and MacFarlane's shows were getting better (FG) to comparable ratings (AD) so they decided to drop KotH and pick up The Cleveland Show.

FWIW in its first couple of seasons it did about what KotH has been drawing.

Peter Gibbons: Our high school guidance counselor used to ask us what you'd do if you had a million dollars and you didn't have to work. And invariably what you'd say was supposed to be your career. So, if you wanted to fix old cars then you're supposed to be an auto mechanic.
Samir: So what did you say?
Peter Gibbons: I never had an answer. I guess that's why I'm working at Initech.
Michael Bolton: No, you're working at Initech because that question is bullshite to begin with. If everyone listened to her, there'd be no janitors, because no one would clean shite up if they had a million dollars.
Samir: You know what I would do if I had a million dollars? I would invest half of it in low risk mutual funds and then take the other half over to my friend Asadulah who works in securities...
Michael Bolton: Samir, you're missing the point. The point of the exercise is that you're supposed to figure out what you would want to do if...
[printer starts beeping]
Michael Bolton: "PC Load Letter"? What the frick does that mean?

I assume that FOX thought that the Cleveland Show would do better than KOTH. They were wrong, the Cleveland Show is the worst animated sitcom I have ever seen.

I can't disagree with anything you said. Dale hanging out with Kahn's wife and Peggy (his mortal enemy?)? KOTH had used up every bit of leverage it had. I wish Archer (or Bob's Burgers took over for the black suckass Family Guy. American Dad is the 2nd best animated show on TV.

Please ask questions, bc I'm pretty sure I have most of this wrong.

Mike Judge is a criminally underappreciated genius

Come on now. I love Mike Judge, and he is experiencing a resurgence in popularity. But when he was in his prime, he had a show on MTV that defined a generation, a show on Fox that ran for something like a dozen seasons, a movie based on his generation defining TV show, and another movie that defined a generation of Gen X'ers tethered to their cubicles.

Idiocracy, while certainly saying something that is relevant and humorous, is not a great movie.

And now he's doing great work on Silicon Valley.

To say he's criminally underappreciated is silly. He stays out of the spotlight in Austin, so maybe he isn't discussed as much as others (maybe) but the guy, when he was younger, was the biggest thing in the industry.

I have a stack of TPS reports on my desk at work. I often distribute them to co-workers. Sometimes an idiot fills it out and sends it back

Am I correct in assuming you have Rick and Morty #1?

Idiocracy is way overrated

You got downvoted out the arse, but I completely agree. I watched it a couple years ago to see what the fuss was about, and it was borderline terrible. I heard for so long that it was "genius" and whatever, and it just flat out wasn't.

The only thing to add is that I watched it on TV, so it was edited, but I don't see how that would change my opinion much, but maybe it would.

Every day it becomes more and more obvious that Idiocracy was written by Nostradamus. We're about thisclose to "Ouch, My Balls" airing on TV and President Camacho appearing on the ballot.
