X-Men’ Movies Rumor: McAvoy & Fassbender To Return After ‘Apocalypse

With Bryan Singer’s X-Men: Apocalypse in 2016, 20th Century Fox will finish the trilogy it started back in X-Men: First Class. It’s confirmed Gambit, Deadpool, and Wolverine have spinoffs in the next few years, but the cinematic future of many mutants – such as Jennifer Lawrence’s Mystique, James McAvoy’s Professor Xavier, and Michael Fassbender’s Magneto – remains uncertain.
Jennifer Lawrence has said she’d like to reprise the role of Mystique in the future, though many fans have been left wondering about the status of James McAvoy’s Professor X and Michael Fassbender’s Magneto. The X-Men franchise has a rich comics mythos to draw from, and a lot of compelling material involves the dynamic remains unadapted for the big screen. Hence, it’s not too difficult to swallow new reports claiming Apocalypse will not mark the end of McAvoy and Fassbender’s time in the X-Men cinematic universe.
According to Heroic Hollywood, Fassbender and McAvoy have reached an agreement to keep playing their X-Men roles in future movie installments. Heroic Hollywood’s report also claims Fox is interested in having Nicholas Hoult (Hank McCoy/Beast) and Lawrence return, though the latter currently “seems unlikely” to reprise as Mystique. It’s worth noting that although Lawrence has expressed “hope” that she will play her X-Men alter ego down the road, she’s also indicated before that Apocalypse will be her last X-Men movie (in all likelihood).
This report comes shortly after actor Channing Tatum closed his deal to play the mutant Remy LeBeau/Gambit in the solo movie scheduled to arrive in 2016. Also concerning the future of the X-Men franchise: Hugh Jackman has made it clear that the 2017 Wolverine movie will be his final time wearing Logan’s claws, while Hoult has said before that he enjoys playing Beast and that “I’d keep making [X-Men movies]” as long as Fox wants him around.
In early 2015, Fassbender told MTV News he wasn’t certain whether or not he’d play as Magneto after Apocalypse, but did state he’s “always interested in moving forward” as Magneto. The actor may soon add yet another successful movie franchise to his name, as he’s gong to headline the Assassin’s Creed video game adaptation that begins shooting in September 2015. Thereafter, Fassbender is poised to reunite with director Ridley Scott to make the Prometheus sequel, as the project is (reportedly) now set to start filming in January 2016.
Nonetheless, the possibility of both Fassbender and McAvoy continuing to appear in X-Men films after Apocalypse isn’t so far-fetched. The two actors have fantastic chemistry together and give excellent performances, while their characters play pivotal roles in the X-Men cinematic universe. There appears to be interest from the pair to continue doing so, too. It’s even possible the duo are being eyed to serve as the “glue” holding the X-Men franchise together, as Fox continues to expand the brand – with a Fantastic Four crossover a possibility down the line (assuming director Josh Trank’s fast-approaching F4 movie reboot doesn’t fall flat on its face, anyway).

This would be awesome. I love Fassbender as Magneto

Great news.
Glad they're doing this in lieu of rebooting again

They had to act quick after the deal with Tatum fell apart

This.
Curious to see if they age them for their fourth film, or if it will be set in the 90's.

that's not going to happen. The closest thing they had to that was First Class.
Fox-Marvel would be smart to ditch the fashion by decades gimmick they are running through currently, and if they had a plan it should be to center around the Deadpool movie-the second most popular mutant out there.

Oh I agree. He was supposed to have an origin film and they ended up turning into First Class. His scenes were by bar the best in that film.

Were the only scenes I enjoyed, honestly. Except for the Logan cameo.
Vaughn is a better director than Singer...and FC > DFOP.

They've gotta pay those guys at least $10M per, right? I imagine they'd be comfortable knowing that check could come every few years. They can do whatever else they want in between.

I will say this, if Fox-Marvel finally matches the importance of the characters in the books to the movies, that'd be awesome...but strategically speaking, Tatum, RR and Olivia Munn are biggest names casted after those two.
Do I really want to see a few X-films where Gambit and Psyolocke are the features?
Maybe one, but c'mon. Even Beast is being phased out. Havok has barely been touched.
Quicksilver? The scene was funny, but Quicksilver as written is the deus ex machina, they don't need anyone else besides him.

It's the best scene in any X film....second place(imo) is The Wolverine bar scene where Logan attacks the hunter who poisoned his bear pal*
the only other two great scenes are the opening to X2 and the chess match at the end of X1.
*(both not directed by Singer)

They have completely wasted Cyclops so far and Halle Berry sucked as Storm so they have a chance to do those characters right in future movies.

let's just say I'm Frankenstein's monster... and I'm looking for my creator. scene gives me chills.
On a thread high jack side note, Fassbender would make an out of this world amazing James Bond.

Magneto kneels to Scott Summers in the books...(and psylockes booty)

Mirroring this crossing metaphorically, Fraction’s return of Magneto stands as Cyclops own crossing. Particularly on page 13, when Magneto gets on his knees and announces: “I come not to bury Ceaser, but to praise him.”
