Why have we not gotten a live action Zelda movie?

Have there ever been any plans of making one?

Live action would be cool but I'd also take an animated one. Like if Dreamworks did it. We already got a wonderful Mario Bros movie and Zelda has a story better suited for a movie.

Just saying name me one good videogame crossover movie. If I owned the rights I wouldn't allow it at all without big name director and actors attached.

Link doesn't talk. Might be kind of awkward to watch that in a movie.

Always wondered this myself. Maybe Nintendo is just really protective of their properties. They don't want another super Mario brothers disaster of a movie like 20 yrs ago.

Just think though, if you had a Spielberg type make a Zelda movie and do it right. There's so much material and such a great story there.

Oh I agree there. I'll say Warcraft wasn't bad and Assasins Creed tried hard but fell short. But they bother were light years better than the old Street Fighter/Mortal Kombat movies we used to get. Zelda could be really good although it might come off like a poor man's LOTR.

He talked in the cartoon and it wasn't weird

Yeah a Spielberg version could be great, but he's not doing Zelda. It would go to some sjw that would try to make link gay or turn him into a girl.

It has potential. Some of the storylines would translate well. Other things that we associate with the games like puzzle rooms and unique weaponry less so.

As much as I hated the graphics, Windwaker had a good story IMO that would translate so much easier than say Ocarina of Time. It has a clear, relatable motivation to start with (the kidnapping of his sister) and the supporting cast would be quite interesting. Buuuuut would probably resemble a Pirates of the Caribbean movie more than LotR.

Actually, a tv series would be best. That way you'd have the time to show him exploring each dungeon, fighting bosses, doing side quests, etc.

Yeah but Ocarina of Time is the best game I've ever played and has such a great story with the time travel and wasteland version of the kingdom of the future....very LOTR-ish.

Yeah, but the story doesn't really work for a movie, in finding 3 jewels and then 7 Sages to defeat Ganondorf. They will have to go at it from another angle that the game really doesn't present.

Really the only 2 games I think that work fine from a story perspective are Majora's Mask and The Wind Waker.

Because movies of video games are always terrible.

Link never speaks. When the main character doesn't talk...at all, that can cause problems for a story.

And aren't most Zelda games based on puzzle solving?

Zelda works as a game. If you really want the story, why not just play the game?

With Majora's Mask, you can easily rework that concept of trying to save the world going through a Groundhog's Day cycle and make it work. Wind Waker's temple tasks are also more tied to individual plot points than OoT is that can be worked around.

Other than those two, you're right. It would be very hard to make the other games work as movies.

There have been a ton of credible rumors over the past two years from everything from a Netflix series to an animated movie. Starting to look like Nintendo is ready to start branching out.

Nintendo's recent partnership with Universal Studios on the new Nintendo theme park might point to some Nintendo animation coming from Dreamworks in the future.
