Why haven't many Iraq or Afghanistan war movies been made?

Lone Survivor, and The Hurt Locker are really all that come to mind. You'd think after more than a decade of war they'd have some source material.

Thoughts?

Jarhead is another that comes to mind. There are a few out there. You can probably make an argument about the quality of some of them though.

There's others like Jarhead(Desert Storm) Three Kings(same) Green Zone(Current) etc. But after the last 12yrs I expected more as well. I was bitching about burnout execs only looking for the next reboot yesterday, and I'd lay this at their feet too.

I'm sure there's scripts out there.

**yall beat me to those-Men Who Stare at Goats was kind of another one, but didn't really get on the front lines.

Zero dark thirty was more of a spy flick.

Too fresh, they all have to have some kind of political message mumbo jumbo behind it which hurts the movie IMO

Zero Dark Thirty did a pretty good job of not trying to make a political statement

Jarhead and Three Kings were Gulf War. Completely different tone than the current wars.

I also missed Generation Kill. I guess that counts.

OK, I wasn't really talking about a foreign film about the Russian occupation of Afghanistan in the 80's.

There have been several that relate to the wars generally that have flopped because Hollywood is too stupid to realize liberals don't go see war movies and war movie buffs don't go see liberal war movies.

Meanwhile, the ones that avoid an overt political message do well. Shocker.

Too much sand. I for one get annoyed when staring at desert for too long.

For example: the scenes in the first 2 Transformer movies that were in the desert annoyed the crap out of me. No, those aren't war movies, but it got painful to watch.

The Hornets Nest, but that's more of a documentary I think.

It's out now.

Most of the combat in Iraq took place in the cities and Afghanistan a lot of it was in the mountains.
