Why hasn't there been a movie made about the Edmund Fitzgerald?

Seems like a good story with the mystery surrounding it. Not to mention, several sub-stories that could tie a feature film together.
It just seems like a good idea for a film.

I jam that one regularly for my five-year-old daughter on our morning rides across the lake... She digs it as much as I do.
I read once that Lightfoot penned the words on a cocktail napkin during a short flight after he had heard the news.

When you hear the Titanic, everyone knows what you mean and the word is cool. When you hear Edmund Fitzgerald, just sounds like a rich turd.

The first time I heard that song I pictured it happening in the 1920's. Come to find out it happened in 1975

That song is so painfully boring

I mean, I don't think it'd be a very exciting 2 hour movie.

It'd be boring as shite.
When are we going to get a really good destroyer movie from WWII?
Battle off Samar - Leyte Gulf.
The story of those ships, particularly the Johnston and Roberts would be incredible films.

That song can't be topped by a movie.

Oh you know Mark Wahlberg would be one of the stars of the movie.
