Why hasn't "ER" made it to a streaming service?

One of my favorite shows, and I'm left wondering how it hasn't made it to Netflix, Amazon, or Hulu in all these years.

Damn, I grew up watching that with my mom. Looking back on it now it's probably why I pursued medicine.

It must be crazy expensive for the streaming services to buy.

but Hulu wouldn't have to pay for it, right? Hulu is the de facto streaming service for NBC shows

Maybe for current shows? I'm not sure how it works.

There are some notable older NBC shows not on Hulu, like West Wing.

well maybe i have it wrong. maybe that's just for current shows

you're right b/c seinfeld had a deal with Hulu so i guess once it hits syndication it is all on the owners of the property and that would explain the lack of a streaming option, b/c, this show would be expensive af. hell, just paying the residuals to the cast would be yuge

I would think one of the problems with a show like that, as well as with many other shows of the last 20 years, is that so many stories aren't episodic. They appeal to someone who made it a point to watch each week; but in syndication it's just not that interesting when catching a couple of shows a month at 4 in the afternoon.

Is it in syndication? If it is there is probably a clause in their contracts that say they won't stream.

But wouldn't that be the argument for why such a show would appeal to a streaming service where binge-watching is encouraged?

Not currently in syndication though I do remember it aired in syndication while new episodes were being produced (maybe on TNT?).

Found an article on the issue dated in 2013 which suggested that Warner Brothers was likely still trying to monetize DVD sales before bringing it over to streaming (like they had with the West Wing). Of course it's been three more years so who knows why it's still held up.

Well, basically what I'm starting to understand is that it may happen at some point but don't hold my breath.

I found a free site that has all the episodes and will watch it when I get in the "ER" mood.

Google "ER streaming online".

You can also pay for episodes/seasons on Amazon Streaming.

People get really upset when you bring up free streaming through nefarious websites. They like paying for their content.
