Those old NFL films were fantastic. Cellulose gold.

...sadly, it glaringly demonstrates what a complete shitshow the league has become. I can happily admit the ONLY game I've seen in the last 15 yrs was the 2010 super bowl. Even the return of Bocephus won't intice me.
Not even a little.

Give me NCAA football and you can keep that shite.

I think they're trying to make legends of current and recent players, not old dead guys who younger people today have never heard of. I think it has more to do with marketing than anything else, whereas the older films with JF were just about being super awesome.

Nothing today will ever top "He was born Earl Christian Campbell....."

You can find some on youtube. I don't know why the NFL stopped making them available though. I used to watch marathons of em on ESPN classics. They briefly got me interested in 1960's jazz.

ETA: I don't remember all the details, but Facenda Jr. got into legal disputes with the NFL. I think they may have screwed each other out of making money off of the Facenda Sr. productions.

While not the main reason, the NFL probably doesn't want people to remember how much they used to promote big hits.

their target demo (& ESPN's) has no interest in history

In which Roger Staubach says, "If I'd been on The Saints and Archie'd been on the Cowboys, he'd be the one in the Hall of Fame".

But I think my favorite NFL Film was the one on the 1952 Dallas Texans, the last NFL team to fold. The story about the coach and the fans at the last game is hilarious.

Same here. That channel was great before the NFL Network. Now they both suck.

Yea I remember the old "best hits" compilations. Different climate now.
