Because IMO, while Jenny looked like a pretty much ok person on the outside (in spite of the childhood abuse), in reality she was totally messed up on the inside and had an instability that repeatedly made itself manifest in such things as repeatedly choosing bad boyfriends, bedding Forrest in the first place, then running off, and then not telling him about their love child or her disease until the last. In real life, she probably would have looked and acted a lot different and not nearly as "put-together" as in the movie.

the only proper motivation and i think it's an actual one in the movie is that she thinks of herself as damaged goods and actually puts forrest on a pedestal of purity. thinking she isn't good enough for him.

she illustrates this after his proposal,
"you don't want to marry me"

i used to take this line as her dismissal of forrest and his grasp on love (because forrest addresses that in his response)

but if i were writing a defense of jenny, i would say she meant that as "you don't want to marry me, i'm not good enough for you"

and portray her as a victim who used self destructive behavior as a way to deal with her self esteem issues and history of abuse.

it all depends on what she meant by that line.

but the point should be, if the world treats you like shite, and you constantly push away the only person who cares about you, who's the real retard?

the thing zemeckis got right is that he put her in the ground where she can't hurt someone else like forrest (because there could've been more men in her life like forrest we just didn't see).

forrest really was a "tragic" hero. he just didn't know he was. and jenny really was a villain.

We are lead to assume that she turned her life around after becoming pregnant so one would assume she had AIDS before sleeping with Forrest. This has always bothered me and I would love a good explanation from someone.

i'm not a dr or anything but i think aids is harder to pass on from female to male than vice versa. i could be wrong.
