I suppose I wouldn't mind that. If he finally made some progress and compassion and it led to a catastrophic problem. Although that has happened before. Like the wedding with Bird Person. But I don't see that being the case. Mainly because of the gap between season 2 and 3. It seems like they had a real problem writing it and then they just hired a bunch of new people to write it for them. I hope I'm wrong.

He did tell Jaguar that he once abandoned his real daughter in the Cronenberg world.

Basically the writers showing he's not a complete sociopath, but anyone with his knowledge and experiences is just not going to fit in as a regular member of society.

Okay, fine, just tie some damn sci-fi into it. They have totally neglected that. We saw Rick being human multiple times before btw. I gave the example of the relationship with Unity, but we also saw his feelings about Bird Person and how he turned himself in to spare his family.

Which throws off some fan theories. Full disclosure, up until the extended sitcom honey I'm home part, I liked last week's episode.

I was wrong. I just rewatched that clip.

He said "I once abandoned one of my infinite daughters in a version of earth that was taken over by mutants".

We will see the effect. Virtue signaling only lasts so long, and they've already lost a decent chunk of their fan base by waiting so long between seasons. I like zany adventures in other universes, I like seeing Rick barely keeping it together, and having to make hard decisions. I hate seeing a pickle forced to listen to a psych 101 evaluation monologue from someone he doesn't even know, yet we are supposed to think given his reaction afterwards it hit home.

He has destroyed universes for Christ sake, killed himself hundreds of times over, yet a therapist in a single session actually affects him? GTFO.

I did like the part when Jaguar asked if he had infinite daughters too and Rick was like, "no, no, just me"

Agreed. And I like seeing Morty deal with that. I like seeing Morty occasionally do something smart or badass and his being kept in check by Rick. I like him coming to terms with the universe.

Amen to all of that. And the car ride home just had Summer and Morty in the back of the car for no real reason. Half the time they just stared. Like writers forgot they were there.

Yes, I want to see Rick going to another planet and fricking something up there and can't so he just bails to another universe

I was really praying that that boring monologue by the therapist was setting it up to get the viewer kind of bored and then while she's mid sentence pickle Rick just straight up murders her brutally and says "frick therapy. There's your therapy! Pickle Rick!" and then burps and grabs the syringe and turns himself back into a naked blood covered Rick and walks out the office. "Don't being me here again, Beth. Summer, shut up and do your homework. Come on Morty, we gotta go." Portal gun jump. Credit roll.

That would've been better than a weird psychoanalytical speech and then an out of place cringe worthy car ride.

Sitting on a therapist couch discussing his issues and then peacefully leaving and making a little date with Beth is probably the least Rick thing Rick has ever done on that show.

I think the whole point of it was that he's trying harder with Beth, especially after the divorce. But none of that is why R&M fans like the show. No one really gives that much of a shite about his relationship with Beth.

Yeah, like I said, no one cares that the female writers are working througg their own family issues on the show. Of course Rick loves Beth. It's been a common theme throughout the show, including when all the Rick's went to their house and they all cared about Beth. Or in the first episode when he tells Morty the only reason he rescued him and summer was so that Beth would accept him back, but he's also Rick. He's got deep issues, sociopathic tendencies, and narcissistic personality.

Rick would've killed that therapist. Rick c-137 definitely would have. Or at the very least vindictivly fricked her world up and then maybe bought Beth some ice cream.

He wouldn't have just taken a lecturing and then had a nice little family sitcom car ride. You know what would've saved that episode? If on the way home in the cute car ride, a portal split that Rick in half and picklerick c-137 said something like, sorry, the stupid arse therapist broke the syringe in my universe, then took the syringe and went back to his house.

That.......would have been so fricking awesome. I would have been the biggest troll on the fans. Great opportunity missed.

Pickle Rick or Mad Max?

Mr. Meeseeks and Mr. Poopy Butthole episodes are the top 2. In a tier of their own.

Has anyone also noticed that there is not funny, or interesting dialogue from support characters these past two episodes as well? That was one of the good features, especially in season one. My favorite line was from Cronenberg episode when the QB tells his Jessica, "if you want words date a languager, I throw footballs far"

Yes.

The writers are writing for the main characters of the current scene and that's it. Look at that car ride or the therapy session. It's one character talking at one time and the rest are forgotten until it is time for them to talk.

Not only did you used to have other characters having dialogue, but there was often background conversations going on that were funny if you paid attention to them.

Like Tammy discussing bukkake or gearhead discussing the gear wars etc... Seasons 1 and 2 seemed to have 3 or 4 plot lines in every episode that tended to come to a point.

The past two episodes had very singular streamlined in your face plots that didn't seem to bend or go off the rails. And they're very grounded and rational often involving each character getting its own spotlight when talking. Which is a calling card of female writing.

Again, I'm not saying it's better or worse, I'm saying it's undoubtedly different and undoubtedly more feminine written.

I'm hoping these last 2 episodes are just transition of characters after the divorce and things will move along back to the R&M we know and love. Last night was just such a let down. Probably the worst episode in the series imo. I have seen a lot of chatter about Rick jumping to a new universe again. If he does that, it would make sense. He would jump to a universe where Beth and Jerry never got divorced. Essentially making season 3 pointless. Other than the character development which has been pretty boring so far. Except Armathy. He was great.
